The Disaster of Kalos (An Ending to Pokemon XYZ)

Part Five

Alain looked at Mairin as she pet Chespie's head.

Here it goes.

"Mairin, I want you to forgive me," Alain began, clenching his fists and looking away.

Mairin looked at him with soft eyes.

"What do you mean Alain?" Mairin asked.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you," Alain said. "For saying that I can't get stronger with you around me. I only did it because you're my friend. I wanted to protect you."

Mairin blinked in reply, and stared at her friend. Alain sighed and looked at her. All anger and coldness were gone from his eyes and was replaced by sadness. Mairin smiled and replied with a hug. Alain stood there for a moment before hugging her back.

I promise that I will protect you no matter what.

James sat on the floor of the helicopter, arms and legs folded. Jessie looked at her partner with concern and sat next to him.

"James? Is something the matter?" Jessie asked, causing James to look at her in surprise.

"I'm just thinking Jess," James replied.

"About what?"

"The twerps are with Team Flare as we speak." James' voice sounded worried. "What if something bad happens to them?"

"Are you seriously worried about those twerps?" Jessie said, mockery in her voice.

James sighed and stood up. He made his way over to Giovanni and leaned against his chair.

"Giovanni, sir," James began, looking out the window. "Can Jessie, Meowth, and I investigate Lysandre Labs? We could find hints on what Team Flare is hiding from us."

"I guess," Giovanni replied. "It can get you three idiots out of my hair. Take these jetpacks." Giovanni pointed to the wall next to James. "Don't forget to report back to me."

"Of course, sir!" James replied excitedly, taking the jetpacks. "We won't let you down!"

"That's hard to believe."

Malva approached the door when she heard a knock. She smiled when she saw Ash and his friends.

"Hello everyone," Malva greeted. "Lysandre is waiting for you in the common room. Follow me."

They followed Malva into a room where Lysandre was standing by a pair of couches. On one couch sat Alain and Mairin, talking like a pair of friends. When they noticed that Ash and the others had arrived, they turned to them and smiled.

"Hi everybody!" Mairin greeted, waving.

"Welcome back," Alain said. "We've been waiting for you."

Everyone settled down and Lysandre turned to Ash.

"So, Ash," he began. "Can you tell us about your Greninja?"

"I wouldn't be the person to ask," Ash replied. "I'm pretty sure that the Prof. should know."

Prof. Sycamore nodded and took out a tablet. He showed everyone a picture of an ancient tablet.

"It's called the Bond Phenomenon," Prof. Sycamore explained. "The last time that had happened was about 100 years ago."

"Wow, so this Bond Phenomenon is very rare?" Serena asked.

"Very," Prof. Sycamore replied.

"So the twerp and his Greninja can do this really rare thing?" Jessie asked her partners.

"Apparently so," Meowth replied. "James, what do you think?"

Jessie and Meowth turned around when they didn't hear James reply. He was gone and they turned back to the window to see James inside Lysandre Labs hiding from everyone else.

"Sometimes I really worry about James," Jessie sighed, turning her attention back to spying on the group.

Meowth just nodded.

"James, what has gotten into you?"
