Instead of lounging around wallowing in self pity, today Yuzuki was feeling good. She showered, did her hair and dressed for tonights date they have been waiting so long for. Her black hair cascaded past her shoulders in a straight line, the two parts of her fringe parted in the middle and pushed to either side to frame her face.
"You look pretty." Sasuke's shy voice said from her door. Yuzuki turned from the bathroom mirror to see him peaking around the doorframe. She smiled brushing back a piece of hair.
"Well, thank you." she picked two shades of lipgloss from the vanity. "What colour do you think is better?" Sasuke looked between the glossy light pink and the light red. He tapped his chin in serious thought.
"Um," he pointed to the pink one. "That one."
"Just what I was thinking." Yuzuki resumed back to the mirror to apply the glittery pink lipgloss. She puckered her lips and noticed from the corner of her eye the sweet look in Sasuke's eyes as he admired her behind the doorframe. "Do you miss your mom?" she said softly. He bowed his head and nodded. "So do I." she knelt before the little boy and rubbed his shoulders in comfort. Yuzuki basically never knew her mother, so she couldn't exactly relate to Sasuke on that matter. They both lost their parents, she could relate on that level. "I miss mine too. I miss a lot of people. But, that now means we both have a very special job to do."
His eyes met hers curiously. "What?"
"It's now our job to keep their memory alive. Everything you do from now on, think about your mom and dad. Do things for them. Think, would they be proud?" Sasuke shrugged. "They would be very proud!" Yuzuki tickled his sides and he recoiled with giggles. It made her heart warm. "Katsuko's coming over tonight to look after you. She's bringing games to play and she's bringing snacks! Can I trust you to be on your best behaviour?"
"Yes."
"Can I? I don't think so."
"Yes!" he repeated smiling.
"Okay." she cupped his cheek before rising to her feet. "Are you gonna help me pick out a dress?" upon her words excitement came to him. He immediately headed for the wardrobe and slid open the doors to find a few dresses hanging alongside ninja gear. There were several pairs of sandals, boxes of thunder kunai and shuriken. Spare forehead protectors amongst other outfits. "This one!" he pulled a short dress from the hanger.
"That one? It's cold tonight."
"This one!" he pulled another down. This time it was a lengthy black dress with an open back, usually meant for special occasions. Tonight is a special occasions, she thought.
"I need to keep my bandages hidden, Sasuke. I'm going on a date." she said coming to the wardrobe.
"With a boy?"
"Yes, with a boy." she laughed siphoning through all five dresses she owned. (Not much of a choice, Yuzuki) she thought to herself. Sasuke dropped the two dresses in his hand and randomly pulled down another and presented it forward. "Hmm?" Yuzuki bit her lip and held up the dress. She glanced down to Sasuke who looked a little worried, and then back to the dress. "I like it, mister. What do you think?" she held it against herself and he smiled.
A laugh came from the doorway and Katsuko threw herself onto the double bed. "For once you actually look decent." she said holding herself on her elbows and her face in her hands. Yuzuki grabbed a pillow and slammed it against Katsuko's face. Her orange hair was immediately ruined and in messy waves.
"Hey!" she cursed. "You're lucky you have an injury or i'd destroy you."
"Even if I didn't, you can't beat me. You never can and you never will."
