Me and Ronnie got to our first class. We sat together and my nerves were almost completely gone.
Then they returned.
He walked into class slowly and calmly. His jet black hair seemed even more perfect up close. His eyes shined and sparkled but kept a green iridescence to them.
"Layla?" Ronnie broke my train of thought while waving his hand in front of my face.
"R-Ronnie, i-it's him!" I whispered.
"That's the guy?"
"Yeah! Oh my god Ronnie he's in our class! We have to change classes now!"
"Layla, calm down!"
"I can't calm down! He's in our class!"
Ronnie rolled his eyes, "You're over reacting,"
"No I'm not! C'mon Ronnie you're under reacting!"
"Layla, this guy doesn't even know you exist! And he looks like a douche bag anyway,"
"Don't say that!"
"Look, I just think you're over reacting, this guy knows nothing about you and you are way to good for him anyway,"
"You don't even know him!" I protested.
"Neither do you!"
I couldn't argue with that logic.
The teacher walked in as I was about to respond.
"Hello class, I am your Algebra Two teacher, Dr. Padilla," He said in a monotone voice. I zoned out and stared at the boy. He was sitting across the room. The teacher began taking attendance.
"Allison?"
"Here,"
"Jane?"
"Here,"
"Ronnie?"
"Here," Ronnie answered.
"Derek?"
He simply raised his hand.
"So his name is Derek," Ronnie stated.
"Layla?"
"Here," I responded.
"At least you know his name," Ronnie whispered.
"We're making progress," I teased.
Ronnie smiled. Once the bell rang we went to our next class. Luckily Derek wasn't in that one. After this period we went to lunch. We sat in the same seats as we did last year. I took a bite out of my sandwich as Ronnie asked,
"So, are you happy you have a class with Derek?"
"Over joyed," I said sarcastically.
He smiled.
"Hey, can I sit here?" I heard a voice ask. And I wasn't making a mistake, I've never heard that voice before.
