* Emma's POV *

"Hey," Elsa greeted me as she came in my room after dinner. "Are you coming with us tonight?"

"I don't know yet," I sighed, grabbing my book bag to see how much work I actually had. "I'm not really big on parties."

"Neither am I," she admitted, giving me a small smile as she sat on the bed with me. "But Ruby can be a tyrant about them, so I usually go just so she doesn't punch me."

"You know, you seem as uncomfortable around all of them as I am," I said carefully and she looked down. "Elsa, why would you do that to yourself? You've been here your whole life, you don't have to try to impress people just to fit in."

"It's just easier to go with it," she sighed, looking back up. "You have no idea what she does to people who reject her, even her own foster brother."

"Foster brother?" I asked, totally confused. "Who's her foster brother?"

"That guy Killian Jones," she told me and I had to hide my shock. "He was in an accident and her grandmother died, so they ended up in the same house but she hates him. She tells rumors about him, treats him like shit, just makes his life a living hell. I don't want to get on that side of her, and you shouldn't either."

"I guess," I sighed, suppressing my anger towards Ruby after hearing this. "Will you help me pick something out to wear then? I'm covered in grease from my car."

"Sure," she smiled and we stood, her eyes freezing on my sides. "Wait, are those handprints?"

"Of course not," I blushed bright red when I saw the prints Killian's hands had left on my waist and went to the closet. "So how fancy are these parties?"

"Depends on who you are. Our group usually gets pretty dressed up," she told me, pausing before going back to her questions. "Are they from the same guy who owns the leather jacket?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," I tried to brush her off as I pulled something out. "What about this?"

"Uhm, not quite," she said as she came to my closet. "Here, try that."

"Seriously?" I asked, raising my eyebrows as I examined the outfit. "But it shows so much skin..."

"Exactly," she said simply. "If you come in something she doesn't like she'll make you change into something worse, and at least this is actually yours."

"You know what, no," I shook my head, grabbing something totally different. "I'll put on make up and I'll show up, but I'm not putting myself on display."

"Emma, she's going to kill you," she said in shock as I put on the dress and my converse. "Only the rejects show up like that."

"Then she can send me home," I said flatly. "I'd rather stay here, but apparently it's a big deal. This is still dressed up, but my kind of dressed up."

"Alright," she said warily, watching me as I took down my hair and put on my make up. "Is this about that guy?"

"What guy?" I asked, playing dumb as I lined my eyes and painted my lips red. "I'm just trying not to lose myself to her. I refuse to let anyone else tell me who I am, so I'm punching back to say no, this is who I am. That's it."

"Oh come on," she begged me. "I'm always hearing about Anna and Chris, I need something new."

"I don't know what exactly is going on yet, so no," I shook my head and she pouted. "Let's just go, I want to get there before it's too dark."

*Killian's POV *

"Hey, moron," Ruby snapped at me and I glared at her. "Go carry the keg in before you skulk to your corner."

"Whatever," I sighed, bringing it inside to the kitchen. "Anything else, your highness?"

"Just go away," she shooed me and I clenched my teeth, going upstairs to wash the grease from Emma's car off my hands though it was still on my clothes.

I really hoped Emma came tonight. I didn't know what was happening between us or what we were to each other, but I knew I liked her. And I definitely wanted to kiss her again. But I also didn't want to ruin all she had going for her right now. I heard people start to arrive and went downstairs, going to the lounge to pick the music.

"Uh, who said you can touch that?" Ruby scolded me and I clenched my teeth, her voice changing when she talked to someone else. "Oh good, you guys are here!"

"Sorry if we're early," I heard Emma's voice and turned around quickly, a small smile coming to her bright lips when she glanced at me. "I didn't want to be late."

"You're always so worried about that," she shook her head at her. "But sweetie, we'd forgive you for being late if you showed up dressed correctly. What are you wearing?"

"A dress," Emma said simply and I fought the urge to punch Ruby in her bitchy face. "I was told to dress up, and this is as dressed up as I felt like getting so here I am."

"Oh honey, no," she sighed. "Come on, you can wear something of mine."

"I don't want to," She stopped her. "I like this outfit, I'm comfortable in it."

"Well you can't be at my party like that," Ruby crossed her arms, her attitude starting to come out. "So you need to change, or go home."

"Bye," Emma waved and turned around, walking out as Ruby scoffed with offense.

"Did she seriously just ditch my party?" Ruby asked as they all stared at the door. "She is so going to hear about this tomorrow when I go to her house."

"Bloody hell, you're such a bitch," I told her, shaking my head and going up to my room. I climbed out the window so they wouldn't know I was following her, catching up to Emma around the corner. "Emma, love, wait up."

"Killian, what are you doing?" She asked, stopping and turning to look at me. "I thought you had to be at the party."

"I'm supposed to do a lot of things I never do," I shrugged, reaching up to tuck stray hair behind her ear and she turned pink. "You look beautiful, by the way, no matter what that bitch says."

"Thank you," she smiled shyly, glancing down as she turned bright red. "I think I'm just going to go home and study... you can come if you want."

"Do you want me to?" I asked with surprise and she looked up through her eyelashes, bringing a small smirk to my face. "Well I can probably find my way to your window in a little while."

"Okay," she bit her lip as she smiled a bit, making me want to kiss her so badly I could explode. "Mine is the window with the white lace curtains."

"See you in a while," I smiled, fighting the urge to follow and wrap my arms around her as she backed up and continued her walk. I couldn't believe how much I needed her as I watched her walk away, my chest aching for me to hold her.
