~Thella~
I may have possessed an awesome sword, but I sucked at sword fighting. Seriously. I was beaten easily.
Daren, my partner, lowered his sword so I could collect my weapon. Again.
"Do you want to take a break?" He asked, a tad concerned.
I shook my head, determined. "No. Can you teach me that disarming move?"
He looked uncertain. "It's kinda advanced." He admitted slowly.
"I have to learn a few tricks!" I pleaded.
He sighed. "Okay. So you need to get into the right position and then..." He began to explain.

Hours later, I sweating like crazy but as grinning like a moron.
"I did it!" I did a happy dance. "I disarmed you! Thella for the win! Oh, yeah!"
Daren grinned, retrieving his sword. "I think you've got the hang of things. That's a wicked sword you've got. I'm gonna spend hours re-sharpening my blade and yours doesn't have a mark on it from what I can see."
I allowed a small smirk. "I guess mine was made by a master." I said proudly, deciding not to mention I was the one who made it.
"Must have been." He agreed. I grinned. I had actually enchanted the blade for that very reason, but it wouldn't do to tell him that.
"So, I am taking a break. You can too, or find another partner." He told me.
I shook my head tiredly. "Naw. I need some water."
We meandered to the tables with coolers. We took turns filling our water bottles.
The practice meadow wasn't a meadow. It was just the same as everywhere else except that there were no tents. Romans fought around us or collapsed on the ground for a break. Daren and I were some of the ones on the ground.
"So." I said after gulping down the water. "Was I really doing well or were you going easy on me?"
He smiled. "Both."
I scowled.
"What? I can't go all out on a beginner!"
You have no idea, I thought. I was only around three weeks old, even though I looked to be thirteen. Carter guessed that three years pass for my body in a week. Let me tell you, it sucks.
I got up and refilled my water bottle.
"Now we can start having some fun." Daren announced. "We can do some real fighting!"
My scowl deepened. "That wasn't fighting?" I demanded.
He shook his head with a grin. "No. That was preparation."
I groaned.
He smirked. "Not looking forward to getting beaten?"
"No. I'm not looking forward to you complaining about your sword!"
His face fell. "That is going to be a pain."
I nodded, satisfied. "Good. Then we will be even. I am going to be so sore tomorrow."
His smirk reappeared. "Newbies. They always throw fits about that."
I rolled my eyes. "Like you never complain."
"Not about sore muscles."
"Really?" Another Roman leaned against the tale we were near. "Then what was what you was that you were doing two days ago?"
Daren scowled at him. "I did a lot of things Two days ago. You'll have to be more specific then that, Lukas."
Lukas rolled his eyes. "Oh sure, act so tough in front of the lady."
"Who said she's a lady? Daren mumbled.
I smothered a grin. "He did, didn't you hear him?"
Lukas laughed. "She has a point. Your wits have been outmatched, Daren."
Romans. They were so fun, evenif they were better at sword fighting then I was.
