Tyler:
When Josh and I walk into school on Monday, both very excited.
Ms. B is starting recorder today, and all we can think about is blowing into a small ivory colored instrument...all day.
Sure, we're both mediocre students, but when Ms. Jackson calls Josh out for zoning out a third time, we realize that we should probably try to focus.
Josh grabs my hand under the table to help him stop trembling from excitement. Cassidy, a girl from our church, raises her hand, 'Yes, Cassidy?' Ms. Jackson says, calling on her. 'Joshua and Tyler are holding hands,' she tattles. 'Why does that matter?' Ms. Jackson asks kindly. 'Because boys can only hold hands with girls,' she states. 'I believe that both Josh and Tyler are holding hands right now, so boys can hold hands with boys, Cassidy.' Ms. Jackson says, trying to remain sane with this young girl chastising Josh and Tyler. 'Well they're sinning, so they're gonna go to hell!' she declares, glaring at Josh and I.
Josh just chuckles and rolls his eyes. I smile. The summer before we started fourth grade, I went shopping for groceries with Mom and Josh. We ran into Ms. Jackson and her wife at the store. Mom and her talked for a solid twenty minutes before finally leaving the store. Ms. Jackson always smiles at Josh and I when we walk together or hold hands.
After half an hour, Cassidy gives up and Ms. Jackson gets back to teaching. Thank God.
