“How about him?”, Jen asks, pointing to another random guy at the bar.
Daisy snorts, “Yeah, because he looks like a match for Als!”
I scoff, “Totally didn’t hear the sarcasm at all, Daize.”
She laughs, “Sorry, just...we’re trying to pick the right guy here!”
Both her and Jen are sitting in the opposite booth as me; they have the advantage of seeing who comes in and out of the bar. Jen nods in the direction of another guy who must’ve just walked in. She asks, “What about him?”, a small smile slowly starting to spread across her face.
Daisy gasps, and pulls the menu up in front of their faces, now whispering to each other. I say, leaning forward a little, “Guys? Guys, what’s the deal?”
The menu comes back down on the table, and I see both of my friends grinning. “Both of your faces are freaking me out. Seriously, what’s up?” I laugh nervously.
Jen says, “Oh, this guy is a definite for you.” I roll my eyes.
Daisy continues, “And we actually know him, so...you’re doing it.”
“Doing...what?”
They look at each other, giggling quietly. My friends don’t giggle. EVER.
I ask again, “I’m doing what?”Jen says, “I...we dare you to kiss him.”
I open my mouth to speak, to object, but Daisy adds, “And if he kisses you back within and or more than 5 seconds...you’re going home with him.”I probably look really angry, because Daisy says, “It’s okay Als, it’s okay. The best part is...we actually do know what he’s like, honestly, he’s harmless…”
Jen adds, “Well...to a degree.”
I ask, hearing the panic in my voice, “What do you mean?”
Daisy says, “He’s related to my boyfriend...they’re brothers, actually.”
Jen chimes in, “He’s close to my boyfriend. Not related though.”I say, a bit loudly, “He’s a Win-”, but
Daisy and Jen both shush me, looking towards ‘the guy’. I blurt, “What!?”Daisy says, “C’mon Ally, we’re doing you a favor!”
I spit back, “Are you? Are you really? I can’t kiss a stranger!”
Jen snorts, “This one you’ll actually want to...believe us!”
Should I really go with this? I mean, I can trust them...right?
I sigh, “Okay, fine...where is he?”
Daisy says, “Second guy closest to us on this side of the bar. Green jacket, bowlegs, jawline that could cut diamonds.”
I sit back down, nervousness flooding back as I say, “Diamonds? Oh no, oh no, oh no, I can’t do this! He sounds too...hot. I’m the exact opposite.”
Daisy and Jen both change to the same facial expression, then Jen says, “Ally, we’ve been over this. You’re beautiful, okay? And we both love you.”
I reply, “Well, how come you both can actually get guys? I mean, you two have to actually help me find a guy. There’s a difference, if you didn’t notice.”
Daisy rolls her eyes, saying, “Als, come on, just do it.”
I stand up again, and feel the anxiousness come back, but Daisy’s ‘you-sit-down-and-you’re -room-is-mine’ look made me stay up. Why she wants my room, I’ve no idea, but I want to keep it, so I do what I’m told.
