I put the book I was reading down on the side table because I heard something hitting my window, I thought it was a bird and ignored it. After a little while though, it continued and I was convinced that it wasn’t a bird, unless it was a mutant creature bird.
I slowly climbed out of bed and looked down my window only to find Alex leaning against his new car, a silver BMW convertible, with a collection of pebbles next to him, he looked down at his phone and I nearly jumped out of my skin when my own phone lit up and his name showed up on my caller ID.
I answered my phone, smiling down at him from my window, my lights were off so he basically couldn’t see me, I was also standing behind my creamy white curtains that veiled me.
“Hello?” I tried to sound exhausted and like I was in the middle of a sleep, I faked a yawn just for extra effects.
“Stop playing dumb with me, I know you’re awake, the streetlight kind of illuminates the dark and I can see you watching me too, get dressed and come down.” He hung up on me before I could disagree or argue.  I watched him smile up at me devilishly and I stared at him weirdly, he then climbed into his car and pointed at the watch on his wrist.
I had barely been hanging out with him for two weeks at that point, I really did not know what to expect but I went for it anyway, it seemed thrilling and exciting, why not?
I put on a tight at the top but loose at the bottom mini dress, I also put on a jacket and zipped it up, not wanting to show off what I had considered my flaws. I was feeling very shy and self aware but I was willing to break out of my shell, even if it was for a night. I didn’t mind having my beautiful dress turn to rags at midnight as long as I got my Cinderella moment.
I quietly walked out of the front door, careful not to wake any of my parents although they would have been proud, especially my mother. She had considered it a true shame that I didn’t go out more often and sneak out in the middle of the night, this was her dream come true but it was also my father’s worst nightmare.
Alex got off of his phone when he saw me and got out of the car; he looked me up and down quickly and whistled. He walked towards my side of the car and opened the door for me, the way a true gentleman would, I curtseyed and gently sat down in the front seat, right next to him.
“Are you cold?” he asked as he turned the heating system on in his car, it was the end of December and the beginning of January, it was bound to be freezing but I was too nervous to feel cold.
I shook my head but he kept the heating system on anyway.
“So, where are we going?” I asked excitedly as I smacked my lips together, spreading the red lip-gloss across my too big lips.
“There are two ways this night could go,” he reached a red stop sign and turned his face to stare at me. “one requires alcohol and going to a super secret place that I can’t tell you about or we could take it easy and skip the booze and go to another super secret place, the choice is yours but we are going to do both, meaning if we do alcohol tonight then the next time I smuggle you out, we will skip the alcohol and go with the second option.” I pondered about it deeply, I had really wanted to break free and be someone that I’m not so, despite my better judgment, I had chosen the plan with alcohol in it.
“okay, get ready to have so much fun that everything, even jumping out of a plane, won’t be as thrilling as this.” he smiled at me and drove on, he left  me alone to quietly wonder what the hell was going on.
We reached this 60’s looking diner that was lit up dramatically and it even had one of those neon signs that lit up the dark.
I held onto him, I wrapped my arms around his as he had escorted me across the parking lot and into the diner. It was so freezing that I had to stand close to him to stay warm, he noticed that I looked hesitant so he handed me a bottle of vodka, he carried it around in his backpack that he insisted on wearing. I grabbed the bottle from him and took a long, toxic swig that instantly took its effect on me.
The burning sensation in my chest caught me off guard and made me want to drink a cold bottle of water to extinguish the heavy fire in my chest but the feeling soon subsided and I kind of liked the way it felt, once it was over and gone I kind of missed the feeling so I took the bottle from him and took an even bigger sip.
Alex grabbed the bottle from me and laughed. “Stop drinking it like its water, I’m only giving this to you so that it can loosen you up a bit, not so you can become too drunk to remember your own name.” I frowned at him and rolled my eyes, he stuck his tongue out and I laughed.
We walked into the diner, arm in arm, and sat down at a secluded booth in the back, far away from the noise that was coming from a group of guys in their late twenties, reliving their teenage memories. The guys drank to their hearts content and requested songs that I didn’t even know but Alex would sing along to them. He kind of matched the diner with his vintage look that he pulled off so easily when he wasn’t wearing sweatpants and hoodies all the time.
At that time, he was wearing a leather jacket with a plain white shirt, paired with black jeans and black ankle boots. His hair was gelled back and reminded me of James dean; he looked like he truly belonged in the 50’s as a lead singer in a rock band.
A waitress in rollerblades rolled over to us, she was wearing a tiny pink dress with an apron on it, her hair had been curled and contained a lot of volume too, she smiled at us brightly and offered us the menu but Alex shook his head.  “Two milkshakes please, one vanilla and one,” he looked at me waiting for me to tell him which flavor. “Chocolate” I continued for him.
The waitress wrote it down and smiled at us, “would you like anything else?” she asked.
“Yes, actually, some curly fries would be really nice,” Alex looked at me, “would you like anything else?” he said ever so politely. I shook my head, fries and milkshakes sounded more than perfect. This clearly was not my typical Friday night which consisted of sleep and TV series.
“So, what are we doing here? Why did I need to drink vodka for this?” I almost cringed as I recalled the taste of the hazardous drink that reminded me of cleaning detergents.
“the excitement lies in the mystery, it wouldn’t be as exciting and as fun if I told you right away, would it?” he flashed his charming devilish grin that I looked forward to. “In the mean time, tell me about yourself.” It had started to sound like a date and although I wanted to date him, I also liked our friendship, he was my only real friend here, I had two years of high school left and I didn’t intend on spending it alone in a library like I had done in all my previous schools.
“What do you want to know?” I rested my head against my fist and smiled at him flirtatiously, I could definitely feel the alcohol taking its unfortunate toll.
“Everything, where are you from? Like your interests, your goals, your hobbies, your deepest and darkest secrets that no one knows, maybe not even yourself.” He said, I didn’t really know how to respond to that, I was pretty much an open a book, what you see is what you get.
“Deepest darkest secrets that no one knows, not even myself? That’s a tough one.” I laugh and so does he. “I can answer the others easily though, I was born in Africa but I grew up in New York then moved to Egypt for a year or two then Hawaii but my parents wanted me to spend time in their neighborhood where they grew up together over here in Canada so here I am.” I paused because he looked so shocked.
“Wow, you really move around a lot, why though?” he asked as he sipped on the milkshake that had just been placed in front of him.
“My dad’s job comes with a whole lot of moving but he wants to stay here for now.” I answered as I took a sip of mine too; I hadn't realized that I was thirsty until the cold, sweet liquid entered my mouth. Alex surprised me when he picked up a curly fry and dipped it into his milkshake and then ate it. He stared back at me weirdly, as if I were the alien. “What? Have you seriously never tried dipping your French fries into your milkshake before?” I shook my head and his eyes widened.
“We have to change that, now.” he picked up a fry, dipped it in my milkshake, he made sure that the fry was no longer visible and completely covered in chocolate and whipped cream. “Close your eyes.” He demanded, I followed his orders with a smile and closed my eyes. “Open your mouth.” He said, demanding me once more, I opened my mouth wide and he carefully put the fry in my mouth, accidentally putting whipped cream all over my upper lip.
“Open your eyes.” I did as I was told and I enjoyed the taste of the sweetness and salty invasion in my mouth that made me want to live off of salty and sweet fries for the rest of my life.
“You got a little something on your lip.” He commented.
I licked the upper right part of my lip but got nothing; he shook his head and laughed. “Here,” he put his thumb out and leaned over the table, our faces were inches apart and he stared at me intensely for  a whole moment before he remembered what he reached  out for, he gently stroked my  upper lip with his thumb then he licked the remnants of my fry off  of his thumb.
“Sometimes,” he paused to dip a fry into his milkshake again. “Opposites can mix together harmoniously and create a beautiful symphony that no one expected.” I smiled and really wanted him to kiss me so badly; it was hilarious how much of a cliché I was being.
The clock made a funny noise, revealing that it was exactly midnight. Suddenly, music spread through the air, filling the silence and everyone, even the drunk group of men dying to experience their youth all over again, stood up on a table and started dancing.  At first, I watched as they all climbed onto tables automatically and started dancing along to the rock song that I didn’t know.
Alex pulled me  up and pulled me towards the wide  countertops and helped me climb up then we started dancing along to the rhythm, it was hard at first since I didn’t know the song but thanks to Alex, and the vodka that is now of use, I picked up a rhythm and started moving my hips.
The rock song ended and some girl in the back yelled, “Elvis Presley!”
Almost instantaneously, Elvis’s unique voice filled the three second intermission between songs, I actually knew the song so I started singing along and dancing perfectly, I had taken many dancing classes back in New York, and I picked up on belly dancing when I was in Egypt.
Alex watched me, mesmerized, with his jaw dropped to the ground. I continued to do my thing when Alex just grabbed my arm and started twirling me around and around until I got dizzy and couldn’t see straight then he spun me again, I laughed hysterically with all my heart as we danced together on the thankfully wide countertops along with other strangers that I felt like I had gotten to know without even talking to them.
He spun me again and I accidentally got unbalanced and nearly fell but he spun me back in and I landed in his arms. We were chest to chest, face inches apart, hands intertwined in each other. He leaned in closer and I stared back at him with wide eyes that were both terrified and ready, my palms were sweaty and so were his, I could also hear both of our hearts beating together, morphing into the same rhythm. I could only hear our hearts so clearly because the song had ended.
Alex quickly snapped out of it and pulled away casually, I wanted to scream, “kiss me you idiot!” but I didn’t, I was too shy and had no idea how it would affect our still new friendship.
“Play something by nirvana!” Alex yelled, he smirked at me and I could feel a deep shade of crimson creep up on my cheeks.
The sound of a guitar breaks through the silence, it is then followed by drums, then the words kick in and the lead singer starts singing.
Alex jumped off of the countertop and went down on his knees and pretended to play the guitar while I sat on the barstool and laughed hard at him. He then stood up and started singing the words to me while I smiled like an idiot. He took my hand and pulled me down with him, he twirled me around again, the bottom of my dress practically inflated every time I twirled around.
I started feeling overheated and flustered, but it was the good kind of flustered, I was having fun.
The song ended and I decided to make a request. “Arctic monkeys, do I wanna know.” I yelled, I could tell that Alex was impressed by my song choice.
“Thought you didn’t like rock music?” he asked, confused.
“I don’t but I make an exception for Alex.” I smiled, waiting for him to get the pun I attempted to make.
“Why is nirvana talking like that?” he didn’t get my joke.
“Nirvana means Alex turner, gosh keep up.” My pun registered in his brain and he laughed and it was his turn to blush.
I took my jacket off and climbed back on the countertop on my own and sang the lyrics perfectly while moving my hips perfectly on time with the beat. Alex watched me again, still enchanted and mesmerized, I had put a spell on him similar to the one his video games did.
He climbed up with me once he regained his brain and started singing too.
“Cause there’s this tune I found that makes me think of you somehow and I play it on repeat.” I sang.
“Until I fall asleep, spilling drinks on my setting.” Alex continued, and then the entire diner broke out and started singing the chorus with us.
“Maybe I’m too busy being yours to fall for somebody new,” we all sang in a chaotic but amazing harmony.
I got mad that Alex still didn’t kiss me or pay attention to me so I decided to rebel and go over to one of the twenty year olds that were still reminiscing. Run by alcohol and sheer desire and lust, I grabbed the cutest one I found and started making out with him on the spot, which was something I had never done before.
The guys hand spread around all of me, I was pretty sure that my jealousy plan was working but at the same time, I didn’t like the fact that his hand was too close to my butt.
Just in time, Alex reached me and pushed the guy off of me and glared at me, the guy fell down on the ground and Alex turned to me.
“Are you okay?” he asked me, I nodded. “Good, why the hell did you do that?!” he yelled, I could see anger in his eyes, he really looked pissed off. I was trying to find the right answer but the  guy that Alex punched stood back up and returned the favor by punching Alex right on his perfect, straight nose.
The groups of men leave and I instantly fell down to the ground right next to Alex who was lying down on his back on the cold, tiled floor. I kneeled down next to him and put his head on my thighs. The nice waitress got me some ice that I carefully placed on his nose that was bleeding.
Alex opened his eyes slowly, then he pushes my hair out of my face, I was leaning down, my face almost touching his, he then cupped my face in his hands.
“I wanted our first kiss to be special; I wanted to take it slow for once. Don’t you think I wanted to kiss you? I’ve been dying to kiss you since the first time I talked to you, maybe even before that. I just… you just… you make me feel something different, something that is more than lust, I don’t just want to dive in, I want to explore your oceans and spend a lifetime swimming through your secrets, I want to know you inside out.” I didn’t know how to respond, I just stared at him quietly. “I’ve messed with other girls, nirvana, but you’re different, you’re pure and I don’t want our first kiss to be just any kiss.” I smiled down at him.
“Just kiss me already, stop treating me like I’m a delicate flower that you are too afraid to break and just kiss me.” I answered back.
“Not now, trust me, not now.” I got up, nearly dropping his head purposely on the floor and walked out pissed off.
Alex followed me out and ran after me, he then grabbed my wrist, his phone was playing “you are my sunshine” and he just twirled me into his arms one last time before he dipped me down.
He leans in to kiss my wanting lips that are basically screaming out “kiss me!”, but the asshole doesn’t, he just kisses my cheek instead which makes me frown deeply.
“Are you serious?” I say when he pulls me back up.
“Yes, I am very serious.” He gives me that heart-throb devilish grin as he escorts me to the car.
I feel my heart beat faster and faster every time I look at him, I just keep on wondering on and on if he is  ever going to kiss me at all, it seriously burns every fiber of my being, I can’t stand craving  him so much and knowing that he is stringing me along helplessly. I am butter melting all over his pancake, I’m just waiting for him to let me in and absorb me.
He kissed me so passionately, so urgently, so roughly, and so sweetly. It was like he was thirsty and had been parched for days and when he got water, he started drinking it quickly at first, recklessly, without any consideration but then he closed his eyes and savored every single remaining drop. It’s like we were two colors morphing into each other, we blended together so beautifully well, just like milkshakes and fries.
