Without You

  Stevie's Christmas party is winding down. She really hasn't felt well most of the day. She woke up that morning like she had the last several mornings throwing up. She is ill enough she didn't partake any of the mountain of coke that Jimmy left for her in her bathroom. 

  Stevie has felt a feeling of foreboding every since she thought she saw Lindsey's car. She hasn't been able to shake it all day.

  The phone rings. Stevie let's it go to the answering machine, she will check it out later. She just wants to rest. But she has that feeling of dread. Stevie goes to the machine and hits play.

  "Stevie this is Jeff Buckingham."

"Lindsey has been in an accident and is in critical condition, mom wanted me to call you."

"I know you two haven't been on good terms but I know my brother would want you here"

"Lindsey is at Cedars-Sinai hospital."

"Lindsey loves you and so do all of us."

  This hits Stevie like a punch to the gut. She sits down hard on the floor. Oh no Lindsey can't be hurt!

  Stevie manages to get herself up. She uses the phone to call a car to take her to the hospital. She then looks through the house looking for Jimmy. She finds him with a couple of his friends snorting coke in her bathroom. She says to him

  "I have to go to the hospital, Lindsey's has been in an accident!"

  "Please get everyone out of here and I'll call you later!"

  Jimmy gives Stevie an uninterested look and snorts another line. Stevie brushes past him and gets her coat. As soon as the car arrives Stevie runs out to meet it and gets in. She tells the driver.

  "Cedars-Sinai hospital and please hurry!"

  As the car speeds to the hospital, Stevie has another flashback. This one is from 1974 when they joined Fleetwood Mac.

  1974

  Stevie and Lindsey are living in their small one bedroom apartment in Los Angeles. Stevie has just got home from her waitress job. Stevie has been thinking the whole way home on how to break it to Lindsey that she was going to take her parents up on the offer to go back to school.

  She has heard Lindsey on the phone. Stevie kicks off her shoes and goes into the kitchen and asks Lindsey

  "Who where you just talking with?"

  Lindsey replied

  "That was that tall English man who we saw at Sound City the other day."

  Stevie asks

  "What did he want Linds?"

  Lindsey responds

  "He said he likes what heard on our demo Without You, he wants me to join his band Fleetwood Mac."

  Stevie is exited! She says

  "Well what did you say?"

  "Are you going to join them?"

  Lindsey replies

  "I said the only way I'd join their band is if you come too."

  "We are a package deal, both of us or none."

  Stevie remembers all the love she has for this man. He would never leave her behind. Stevie gets up on her tippy toes and plants a passionate kiss to his lips and then says
