The next few months go by, both Stevie and Lindsey are engulfed in their own solo albums. Both privately really want their record to outdo the others in sales and critical review.
Lindsey's record is almost finished. It's ready for the mixing which Lindsey and Richard are doing themselves. Warner Bros expects Trouble to be the hit off this record so it will be released first.
Stevie's album is finished. It's scheduled to be released in July. Jimmy and Stevie know there are going to be definite hits off this record! Stevie's friend Tom Petty has helped produce the record.
Stevie and Tom's song Stop Dragging My Heart Around will be the first song released.
Stevie is immensely proud of her record. She amazed at how fast an album can be made without Lindsey nitpicking every single aspect.
Lindsey hasn't seen much of Stevie lately. She again is ignoring his calls. His drinking and self mutilation have gotten worse. He is starting to cut his arms now too. He and Carol Ann fight all the time. She has threatened to leave him. Lindsey doesn't care.
Stevie is really having trouble with her addition too. She is laying in bed next to Jimmy thinking. She is going through an eight-ball every 3 days. Her nose now bleeds from time to time. Stevie wonders if it wasn't for the drugs, the money and fame if her and Lindsey would be married and have a family. Stevie rolls over her back to Jimmy and cries silently.
At the same time at Lindsey's house he is laying in bed next to Carol Ann. He like Stevie, is thinking about what the money, drugs and fame has done to their lives. He too rolls over and silently cries.
In July Stevie's record comes out and it's an instant success. The music critics love it and Stop Dragging My Heart Around has hit the pop charts with a bullet. Stevie should be on top of the world but something is missing. Cocaine is what fills the void for her.
In October Lindsey's record is released. It is not as well received as Stevie's Bella Donna. Lindsey is crushed. Stevie's record has already went platinum. It appears he has been incorrect, she doesn't need him. Stevie doesn't need him to make her music or to share her bed.
It's Christmas time and Lindsey has been holed up in his studio for weeks. Carol Ann has left him. He is all alone. Lindsey's thinks it's time he went for a drive.
Lindsey drives along the mostly deserted streets of Santa Monica. His bottle of whisky his only companion. He is listening to Running to the Pack by Bad Company. He suddenly finds himself driving by Stevie's house. He pulls over across the street and looks out the window at her place.
There are many cars parked in Stevie's driveway. She must he throwing a Christmas day party. The Bad Company tape starts to play Silver Blue and Gold
In the beginning I believed every word that you said
Now that your gone my world is in shreds
Oh you loved me and left me
You took all the things that I needed so bad
I'm standing here wondering were is the love that I had
Oh give me silver blue and gold
The color of the sky I'm told
My rainbow is overdueIn the beginning yeah
There was something of love that was mine
Now that's it gone woah I'm cryinOh the time that it's takes for a love
To grow cold is a wonder to me
I'm walking around with my head
Hanging down saying where is sheGive me silver blue and gold
The color of the sky I'm told
My rainbow is overdueDon't forsake me cause I love you
Don't forsake me cause I love you
Give me silver blue and gold
The color of the sky I'm told
My rainbow is overdue
Now give me silver blue and gold
The color of the sky I'm told
My rainbow is overdueOh don't forsake me cause I love you
Don't forsake me cause I love you Yeah
Lindsey realizes he was singing along as he cried. His and Stevies love has grown cold he thinks. She has taken the thing that he needs so bad, her. Lindsey takes a big gulp of whisky and drives away from Stevie's house.
Inside Stevie's house she is indeed throwing a Christmas party. Most of the people she doesn't know, they are industry people Jimmy invited. Stevie is standing by the window thinking about a Christmas many years before, in 1973 she remembers. She loses herself there for a bit
CHRISTMAS 1973 Stevie POV
Stevie and Lindsey have just finished making love for the 2nd time this morning, what a way to wake up! Stevie says to Lindsey
"Are you packed and ready, we need to get on the road to Mom and Dads."
"I told them we would be there before supper."
"Oh and don't forget the presents Angel."
Stevie sees Lindsey shake his lovely curly head and laugh at her. Stevie feels herself smiling back. The love for Lindsey almost crushes her!
Stevie and Lindsey get their bags packed and loaded along with the presents. They are borrowing Richard's VW bug, there car is on the shop once again! Stevie hopes their record is a hit because they need the money. Oh no Stevie thinks I hope Daddy hasn't seen the cover of the record! You can just about see my boobs!
She looks over at Lindsey driving. Oh he made her take her pretty blouse off and go topless with him for that cover. She hates it! Oh who is she kidding, right after the shoot Lindsey has her against a wall in the broom closet with her legs wrapped around him. And she loved it!
She sees Lindsey look over at her and he smiles. He says
"Why is your face so red baby?"
"Where you thinking about that broom closet again?"
They both laugh and continue down the highway. Five hours later they arrive at her parents house. Barbara and Jess greet them warmly and they settle in. After the big holiday meal they open presents. The first one she opens is a brand new electronic skillet from Lindsey. Stevie beams and says"How did you afford this Linds?"
He responded
"I told Mom that I ruined yours and she sent me the money to buy this!"Stevie embraces him and they kiss softly. How she loves him.
PRESENT DAY
Stevie is shaken by her reverie by Jimmy whispering in her ear
"Hey baby I got your Christmas present all lined up on the mirror in your master bath, enjoy!"
Stevie is irritated by the interruption but she knows she will do the lines. She looks outside one last time and thinks she sees Lindsey's car. Her heart just about beats out of her chest!
Stevie throws a jacket on and runs outside. Where she thought she saw Lindsey's car, there us nothing now. Dejected, Stevie goes back inside and heads up the steps to her master bath.
Blocks away Lindsey is driving and comes up on the Santa Monica pier. It's deserted being it's Christmas day.
He turns and drives right onto the pier. He thinks"Fuck it, I'm done."
Lindsey steps on the gas and his Mercedes goes flying off the end of the pier into the ocean. The last image Lindsey has on his mind as his car slips beneath the water is of Stevie's face.
Don't forsake me cause I love you
