Ashley's POVI sighed in satisfaction the moment that I finished arranging the books in the Science Fiction shelves. Since there were only a few people in the book shop, I hummed a low merry tune as I waltzed to the next shelf, Fantasy. I started to organize the cluttered books and put the ones with different genres in a basket.
I honestly did not have any idea why I felt ecstatic but, somehow, I had an inkling that something good would happen – maybe I was trying to be positive to attract positive aura; maybe not, oh, I really did not know.
I squatted down and began working on the toppled books at the lower shelf when I a caught a glimpse of an expensive-looking brown checkered canvas shoes tapping boredly in front of me. I knew some people would have been offended by the gesture but I was not the type of person whose feathers easily got ruffled – in fact, my friends even called me Saint because of that. I slowly stood and met the owner's cool haughty gaze with a courteous smile. "Good day. Welcome to Owl's Bookstore, how may I help you?"
The person's hazel eyes briefly widened in surprise as she stared at me before it glimmered with interest. She gave me mischievous smirk and responded, "I'm searching for a Pokemon in the area but I guess my GPS leads me to an angel. Are you sure this is Owl's Bookstore and not heaven?"
My mouth went slightly ajar — was she flirting with me? I could feel my cheeks burning.
I stared at the stranger and noticed how beautiful she was with her pixie auburn hair, and tantalizing hazel eyes flecked with thick curvaceous eyelashes. Her astounding beauty seemed in contrast to her current attire of loose grey sleeveless shirt and blue denim jogger pants; her lithe white arms were coiled with intricately made colorful tattoos of Japanese Dragons and other Asian mythical sky creatures.
I had seen so many beautiful women in my life but I guess the one in front of me was the most beautiful – she definitely looked like a supermodel. Despite of what she was wearing, she did not look masculine at all; in fact, she seemed to have this feminine yet tough aura in her. When I realized that I was staring too long like an idiot, I quickly bowed my head shyly and apologized to her, "I'm sorry. How may I help you?"
She chuckled. "Well... Ah, never mind." She shook her head as if she mentally decided to drop something and bored me with an amused look instead. "Anyway, I am looking for 'The Compass and the Nail' by Craig Wilson. Do you have it?"
I beamed at her and answered, "Yes, we do. You're lucky we only have one left." I reached for a book from the basket that I was carrying and handed it to her.
She lazily perused my body up and down before taking the book from my hand. I, however, did not fail to notice her lingering a bit longer in my chest. I felt a sweltering uneasiness creeping all over me that I couldn't help but shiver a little bit – which I hope wasn't noticeable. I was about to tell her to stop staring at me but I was stalled when she charmingly said, "Thank you."
"You are welcome." I said, mustering my brightest smile despite the shyness that her intense eyes evoke in me. I could feel my heart doing somersaults inside.
The tattooed stranger gazed longer at me, as if memorizing my features, before turning her back. My heart started to go back to its normal beating but then she turned back again and, I swear that I almost lose the ability to breathe
Her eyes narrowed in seriousness and curiosity, "Are you really sure this isn't heaven?"
"No," I stammered.
She simultaneously clucked her tongue and snapped her fingers with dramatic shake of her head. "Too bad, I won't mind if I'm dead as long as I am staring at the gorgeous angel in front of me."
