Chapter 15

Although my mind was still running in the circle of bewilderment because of what had transpired between Gabby and I, it did not diminish the excitement that I felt whenever I was about to see my parents again. From a distance, I could see my parents conversing animatedly to someone who had her back at me.

My steps faltered...

Without any doubt, I was very certain as to who owned that slender back, swan-like creamy neck and long flowing jet black hair neatly tied in a ponytail. But how come? Why was she here?

"Oh, there she is!" My mother exclaimed in delight.

The beating of my heart had gone berserk that I almost think that it might burst out of my chest when she turned her head to face me. Just like in a movie's slow motion moment, I felt our stares collided together and everything that was in me had turned into a puddle.

I couldn't think—it was as if my brain had a short circuit. I was not even sure if I was still breathing properly.

"Sweetheart, hurry up, you have a visitor!" My mother called, her exuberance astounding by the way that she motioned me to come near them.

"Good afternoon, Ashley," Gabby greeted politely although I could clearly see the mischief dancing in her moonstone eyes.

I internally gritted my teeth in exasperation. I came here to be away from her but it seemed that she just would not even allow me that opportunity.

My mother hugged me and kissed me when I went near while father gave me a gentle tap on my shoulder.

"Oh, your friend, Gabrielle, is very charming and intelligent. She has been here since the morning to keep us company."

"I agree," my father nodded his head. "She knows a lot about farming particularly about the new farming techniques and technologies. She even offered her help by calling her contacts from the WindfieldTech Farming Industries. The company actually contacted me earlier that they will be sending new farming equipment next week that we can try for free before they release them to the market." He informed me with a smile.

"What?" My mouth went agape for a moment. I looked at Gabby, giving her a questioning glare which she merely responded with a nonchalant grin. I briefly closed my eyes in frustration, trying to put my anger at bay so that I would not burst in front of my parents. Patience, Ashley. Patience. All you need is PATIENCE.

"Isn't that wonderful?" My mother giggled enthusiastically.

Honestly, I would have opposed this as this, what Gabby had been doing for my family, was obviously like a bribe. Even if I felt something for her, in fact I was in love with her, I did not want her to dip her hands into my family's affairs—especially financial affairs. I did not want to feel indebted to her nor I did not want her to think that I was using her for my personal gain because I was not that type of person. I had my own principles which I held in high regard.

"Mom," I sighed in enervation. "Gabby is not my friend."

Both of my parents seemed confused at my statement but then Gabby stood and drew a possessive arm around my shoulder. "Of course, we are not friends," she seconded confidently. She pulled me closer to her, I tried to push myself away from her but she was just so strong. I tried to give her a glare of warning but she dismissed it with an uncanny smirk that had effectively stopped me from struggling. "Your daughter and I are not friends because we are lovers."
