MARRY ME: 'My Memory IV'

"Love is the most beautiful of dreams and the worst of nightmares." - Aman Jassal

'Gab,' Zuri frantically approached her best friend who was busy tending to her horse, Ombre. 'You need to come with me— it is a matter of life and death!'

Gabrielle faced Zuri and stared at her with confusion in her gray eyes. 'What's going on and what's happening to you?'

'Isabelle,' Zuri said, in a gravely serious voice, and quickly grabbed Gabrielle's arm. 'Please postpone your questions and come with me as soon as possible.'

Gabrielle stiffened as a frightening chill ran against her spine. She promptly followed Zuri to where the latter was bringing her to. They both arrived at Isabelle's dormitory and found an ambulance parked in front of the building.

'What is happening?' Gabrielle asked Zuri when she found a distraught Victoria who was crying outside of the ambulance's entrance; her dorm mates gathered around her and tried to comfort her.

'Did something happen to Isabelle? Please tell me.' When her best friend did not answer her, she rushed towards the ambulance. Her eyes widened in horror when she saw Isabelle inside looking extremely pale with oxygen mask on; IVs and other medical equipment attached to her.

Gabrielle's chest tightened in her chest so painfully, she felt as if it would burst. A deluge of tears fell from her eyes—'Isabelle!' She tried to get inside the ambulance but one of the medics stopped her.

'Sorry, miss, you are not allowed to get inside.'

'No!' Gabrielle exclaimed angrily; she tried to force herself into the ambulance. 'Isabelle needs me. Please let me go inside!'

'I'm really sorry but if we let you in; it will only aggravate her situation.'

'What do you mean?' Gabrielle demanded in exasperation.  'What is happening to her? Why are there so many medical devices attached to her? Nothing bad will happen to her, right? Please. Please I beg you, tell me that nothing bad will happen to her.'

The medic just fell silent and bowed his head— a gesture that exacerbated the fear that was in her heart.

"Why are you silent? Answer me!"

"I'm really sorry."

The medic finally went inside the ambulance and closed the door.

Gabrielle fell on her knees as soon as the ambulance sped away; her heart sank along with her. She fervently wished in silence that nothing will happen to Isabelle.

Zuri approached her grief-stricken best friend and tried to make her stand.

'Please stand up, Gab. Isabelle won't be happy when she knows what is happening to you right now.'

'How do you think I will react?' Gabrielle sobbed sorrowfully; her shoulders shaking violently. Her heart was filled with distress; she felt constricted, stabbed by it—as if she was going to die from so much pain that she never experienced before.

'What's going on, Zuri? Why are you not telling me something?' She asked softly as her tears continued to fall—she never felt this helpless and clueless in her entire life. 'Can someone please tell me what is happening to Isabelle?'

Zuri remained silent and sadly stared at Victoria who was still crying in anguish.

Gabrielle silently watched in tears at Isabelle who was sleeping in her bed. It had been more than a week since the latter was transferred from the ICU to a private room.
