ASHLEY'S POV
The blue sky stretched to an infinitesimal mile, encompassing everything in the boundless realm. The cerulean canvas was decorated with gauzy thin web-like clouds of various shapes which were only played upon by the whimsical breeze. It was already nearing noon but the sun was still as bold as it first rose during the morning.
I sauntered out of the University to the cafe, located across the school, where my friends and I normally frequented to. But today was different, I decided to go there alone despite my friends' prodding to accompany me. It was not that I did not want to be with them—I just wanted to find a reprieve from their never-ending questions. Besides, I did not see the point of answering questions that were worded differently yet had the same meaning, only to elicit either mocking or skeptical reactions.
I went inside and inhaled the invigorating scent of coffee that permeated within it— the coffee's aroma was indeed a panacea to a weary soul and a feast for the olfactory senses. I did not dally too long in the counter and bought my usual latte before exiting out to sit on my favorite spot among the many tables located outside the establishment.
The café was surprisingly not crowded which made me appreciate my decision to come here alone to a great extent. Setting my coffee on the table, I took a few books and laptop from my backpack. I prepared my stuff and resumed working on the research that I started yesterday, the moment that I settled down on the chair. Unhampered by the worry of beating the time to be not tardy in class, I enjoyed the uninterrupted moment brought by my placid and productive solitude.
No stress... No... Gabby...
I was well over the end of my research when another cup of my favorite latte was gently placed on my table.
"Coffee for the beautiful lady..."
My brows furrowed in irritation as I tended my stare to the person who never failed to annoy me by just asserting her presence—Gabrielle James Windfields. While I might have found her bothersome, I could not deny the fact that she looked extremely beautiful with her signature ponytail and casual attire—mint green long-sleeved oxford shirt with a gray collar, its sleeves rolled neatly over her upper arms; soft skinny blue jeans; light gray apron loafers and a pair of vintage sunglasses covered her tantalizing gray eyes from the sun's rays or perhaps to provide a bit of anonymity to her.
"It never fails to surprise me how you pop up everywhere I go just like a mushroom."
"I am your stalker, remember?" Gabrielle responded with a mischievous smirk and removed her sunglasses. Without bothering to ask for my permission, she made a place for herself in the table where I was working. She put her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her entangled hands while observing me.
"Gabby, I am busy..." I said wearily under my breath, trying hard not to get distracted by her prepossessing features and captivating smile.
"I know," she replied, the winsome smile never leaving her face. Why does she has to be so bright— so bright that she'd put the sun to shame? "Don't mind me—just pretend that I am nothing but the invisible breeze that is gently moving across your pretty face."
A deep shade of red appeared on my cheeks upon hearing her flattering remarks. "It is impossible."
"And why is it?"
I clenched my jaws hard, forcing myself to not say what was truly inside my mind. "In case you haven't noticed, you are not invisible. Gabby... Please leave me alone, okay? Bother me some other time but not today."
"Why do you always drive me away, Ashley?" Gabby asked, her stunning face marred by a sad frown.
"Because you are a nuisance." I answered bluntly.
