As a desperate attempt to get me to stay with her Lexi has been sending me dozens of roses for the past week. The first day it was just a dozen, then the next it was two, the third she sent three and so forth and so on.
"Maya please forgive Lexi for whatever she did so she'll stop with the flowers already." Dad kisses the top of my head before turning around to make some coffee. I'm sitting at the counter trying to enjoy my cereal and ignore the recent delivery. "I already forgave her dad but I just don't know if I still want to be with her." I say into my bowl.
"What happened sweetheart?" He takes a seat at the counter next to me. I look at my wrist quickly. It's faded enough that I was able to say I fell and it was believable.
There's no way I can tell him what happened. I should but I can't.
"She just said some stuff about me and Cass that bothered me is all daddy." I sigh at the half truth. "Hmm I would be concerned about my competition too if I was her. Especially since you like her." Dad sips his coffee and I almost choke on my cereal. "Daddy" I whine "you can't just say stuff like that." I wipe some milk off my chin while he just laughs.
"I'm with Lexi not Cassidy." I state. "But you wish she was Cassidy." I start to deny it but he stops me. "Come on now Maya don't say it's not true. I can see it when you guys hang out and I'm your dad. I can tell when something or in this case someone is bothering you." I get up and put my bowl on the sink then sit back down.
"What do I do daddy? I really like Lexi but..." He raises a brow at me "Buuuttt?"
She has a dark side I'm worried about.
"Cassidy is Cassidy. She makes me feel like I've never felt before." I sigh and dad wraps his arm around me and I lean into his shoulder. "Baby girl life is about choices. Once upon I could make all your choices for you but now you're all grown up." He smiles sadly "I can't make this choice for you. You have to do whatever you feel would make you the happiest." He kisses the side of my head.
"You know Nicky told me the same thing when I came out to her." I tell him and he chuckles before standing up. "Of course she did. You guys got more than just your good looks from me." He smiles and I roll my eyes before I start to make my way upstairs to my room.
I stop halfway up when I hear the doorbell and turn around to answer the door. When I open the door and see no one there I step out and look around and notice a single tulip taped to the door with a note. I grab them both and rush upstairs. I place the flower in a vase containing some roses.
The tulips perfection doesn't even come close to yours.
That was all the note said but I can't stop the smile from spreading on my face. It's typed so I don't know who sent it to me since but I think I have an idea.
I grab my phone and dial her number, it rings a couple of times before she answers. "Hello?"
"Hey, are you busy?"
"Not really, I mean I'm just hanging out with some friends at home. Why what's up?"
"Oh well I wanted to come see you but you have company-"
"No, no, come please. It's ok."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely."We hang up and I get ready before heading over to Lexi's.
"Hey come on in." Lexi tells me before stepping to the side. She closes the door behind me and I follow her to the living room to see her friends that were with her when we first met. "Hey Tracy, Candice." I wave and they look up at me at wave back. "Wasn't expecting to see you today Maya." Tracy says and Candice nods. "Yeah Lex wouldn't tell us what she did just that she screwed up royally." Candice tells me.
"Well I had just had to come thank her in person after that last flower and note." I blush a little and look toward Lexi who looks at me confused. "What flower and note?"
"You know the tulip you sent me today." I tell her and she shakes her head. "I didn't send any tulip, just roses."
Oh. So if not her then who?
"Oh well, maybe it was for Nicole and not me. I just assumed..." I shake my head and look back to Lexi. "I still want to thank you for the roses and we need to talk about some things." I tell her. "We can go upstairs for a bit to talk privately." She rises from her seat off the couch she was on then looks at her friends. "Don't rob me while I'm gone." Candice scoffs "oh please if we were going to do that we could've it done years ago."
"I don't know man I need a new car, I might be able to get something for this tv." Tracy jokes and Lexi throws a pillow at her before grabbing my hand and leading us upstairs. We close the door once we get to her room and sit down.
"Maya-"
"Lexi-"We both start at the the same time and grin sheepishly. "You start." I tell her.
"I just wanted to say that I've really missed you and I know I said I love you really early but I do. I've never met anyone who makes me feel like you do." She takes her hat off like she does when she's trying to compose herself. She takes a deep breath before continuing.
"I can't explain how you make me feel. Like I said I've never fell so hard for someone so fast. There literally are no words to describe it. You know what I mean?"
How Cass makes me feel. I'm her Cassidy. God I should've walked away that day in the mall.
"You don't have to tell me you love me back. It's ok, I just needed you to know that." She exhales before putting her hat back on and grabbing by hands. "Lexi I..."
I can't lead her on like this.
"Lexi that day in your car when you...you know." She looks down with shame written on her face. "You were right. I do have feelings for Cassidy. I haven't told her cause I don't want to ruin our friendship."
She lets go if my hands and stands up pacing in front of me. "God Maya." She says throwing her hat down before crouching down and putting her face on her arms. I hear her sniffling and my heart breaks slightly.
I swallow before going over to her and putting a hand on her back. She looks up at me with tears streaming down her face. "I bet I sounded real stupid huh?" She sniffs and wipes her face on her arm. "Confessing my love for you but here you are in love with-with" she shakes her head refusing to say Cassidy's name.
"You didn't let me finish." I tell her as I wipe some tears from her face. She looks at me confused but waits for me to continue.
"I can't have Cass but if you're willing to have me I can try to learn to love you." She just looks at me. "That sounded kinda bad. I mean I do have feelings for you but after that day in the car well..." I grab her arm and stand us up then walk back to the bed to sit. "What I'm saying is you're a great girl that I'd be crazy to let go for a fantasy that'll never be mine. I'm willing to forget about that one time if you can promise it'll never happen again."
She nods her head "Of course Maya. I really don't know what came over me that day but I regretted it as soon as I drove away." She wipes the remaining tears off her face. "You're a queen that only deserves the best Maya. Thanks for giving me a second chance." She says before engulfing me in a hug.
