My dad is a pretty chill guy, I've only seen him mad enough to turn red twice. The first time was when Dave hit me, the second is right now. "Lexi did this to you?" Lisa says as I pull my shirt down and nod. Dad starts to pace and mutter to himself. "Dad?"
"Yes princess?" He only calls me and Nicky princess when we're hurt or upset. "Will you call Cassidy over before you do anything? I want to explain everything one time." He nods before pulling his phone out.
Lisa hands me an ice pack for my stomach. I didn't even realize she had left the room, I sit down on the couch, lean my head back and close my eyes. I can vaguely hear my dad talking on the phone. By now I'm not sure if he's talking to Cassidy or the police. I just want to get this whole nightmare over with and cuddle up in my bed.
A hand on my shoulder snaps me out of my daze. I look up to see Nicky with Cassidy behind her, I get up and hug both of them.
"Maya you've been sitting there like that for a while now, you didn't even notice us come in." Nicky says concerned. "Yeah your dad told me to hurry over and said something about the police coming. My what happened?" Cassidy asks. I lift my shirt up again to show them my stomach. Nicky gasps and covers her mouth, Cass just takes my hand and lowers my shirt. "D-did Lexi..." I shake my head and she pulls me into a tight hug. I hiss in pain at the sudden contact with my still sore stomach.
"I'm so sorry Maya. I should have never let you go off alone with her. I wouldn't if I had known." She sits us back down and wraps an arm around me, I lean into her and relax. A knock on the door brings me back to my senses. I zoned out again without even realizing it.
Dad goes to answer it and returns with two police officers in tow. "Hello I'm officer O'Conner and this is officer Lee." His partner next to him nods.
"We were called about an assault on a young lady?" I nod and offer them a seat before I begin to explain what happened. Halfway through my explanation dad gets up and leaves the room fuming. After I finish they suggest that I go to the hospital to get checked out and then to the station to make an official statement.
I just nod not really caring, like I said I just want this all to be over.
"Maya it's going to be ok." Cassidy tells me before wiping some tears from my face. When did I start crying again? I sniffle and throw my arms around her. "Ride with me to the hospital?" I whisper and she nods.
The trip to the hospital was fairly quite, I mean nobody really had anything to say. The examination was pretty quick too, overall I'll be fine. I'll just be a little sore and bruised for a few days.
Once we got to the police station I had to tell the police what happened again and I had to show them my bruises. They asked me all kinds of follow up questions.
Is this the first time she's hit me? Did she show violent tendencies before this? Did I hit her back?
When they asked if I wanted to press charges I almost laughed at the absurdity of it.
Of course I do! Why in the hell would I be here if I didn't!
I also got a restraining order put against her while I was there. I never want to be that close to her ever again. After everything was finished we got to go home and I was able to convince dad to let Cassidy sleep over.
"Cass you still up?" I whisper into the dark. "Mhmm." she grunts, she must have been half asleep. "I..." I swallow thickly. "Can we...can we cuddle? I can't sleep, I just...I just need to be held right now." I don't move as I wait for her to respond to me.
"We don't have to if-" "Maya you dork" she rolls over and wraps an arm around my waist. "Next time just come cuddle me, ok? I'm comfortable as long as you are." I sigh roll onto my side so I'm facing her and snuggle into her embrace. "Thanks." I mumble into her shoulder.
This is what I've wanted all day. Being cuddled up with Cassidy makes the trauma I went through this afternoon almost disappear. I couldn't imagine a better ending to a shitty day.
I don't know how long I laid there before the smell of vanilla and the soft beat of her heart lulled me to sleep.
