Do I call them Mr. and Mrs. Carter now or by their first names like always? What's the protocol for this situation?
"Aw sweetie you look beautiful." I turn around to find my mom standing in the doorway of the room I share with Nicky at her house. I smile and look at myself in the mirror one more time. "Are you sure mom? I mean I don't want them to think I'm not taking this seriously. What if they don't like us being together. And do I call them by their first or last names? Oh and what if-"
"And breathe." Mom interrupts my rambling and I take a deep breath like she instructs. "You'll be fine, they love you already, and call them Tim and Carey like you've been doing. Oh and you two have been together for two months, if they had a problem with it you would've known by now." She explains.
She's right it's just Mr. Tim and Ms. Carey. What am I worried for?
I look at the clock and see that it's about time for me to leave. "Thanks mom, see you later." I give her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek before heading out the door. I stop and grab some flowers out of my car, which in retrospect I shouldn't have left in there, for Cassidy and her mom. A note on my window catches my attention. I don't have time to look at it so I just grab it and throw it in my seat before I close the door.
Ok Maya deep breath. Don't show any fear, Mr. Tim is like a wolf he'll smell it.
I ring the doorbell and wait for someone to answer. Thankfully Cassidy answers and I let out a breath of relief that I didn't know I was holding. "Hi baby, you look beautiful." I give her a quick kiss and hand her the bouquet I got for her. She smiles and steps to the side to let me in. "Aw thanks but I'm no where as gorgeous as you are love."
"Yeah cause you left me in the dust years ago with your beauty. Like I'm hypnotized right now." I follow her into the kitchen so she can find a vase for her flowers. "Hmm nah you look way better than me and I won't have my beautiful girlfriend arguing with me." I blush and hand her the flowers I got for her mom. "I got a bouquet for your mom too."
"First you steal my daughter's heart, now you're after my wife's. It's like that now Maya?" Cassidy's dad walks in and gives me a hug. "Daddy." Cassidy pretends to whine. "What, am I not allowed to hug my favorite daughter-in-law?" I chuckle at Cassidy and her dad as they go back and forth.
"Timothy when I said go get your daughter, I meant your youngest." Cassidy's mom joins us in the kitchen with Cassidy's younger sister Mariah in her arms. "Hi Maya it's good to see you, I feel like I haven't seen you since you Cassie started dating." I go over and give her a hug and tickle Mariah.
I really haven't seen much of Cassidy's parents since we've started dating because we're always at my dad's house.
"Hi Ms. Carey, it's good to see you too. I got you some flowers." I point to the second vase on the counter. "Oh thank you, that's so sweet." She says as she sets Mariah down who immediately toddles her way to Cassidy, demanding she pick her up. We all make our into the dinning room where Cassidy's younger brother Josh is waiting for us. I end up sitting with Cassidy on one side and her dad on the other. Dinner goes well, it's just like all the other times I've eaten over at her house.
Near the end of dessert Mr. Tim clears his throat before looking at me. "Maya you know we love you but I need to know what your intentions with my daughter are." Cassidy grabs my hand under the table in encouragement. "I don't know my future holds Mr. Tim but I don't care as long as it has Cassidy in it." I pause and turn to Cass "I love her." I squeeze her hand and she smiles at me.
"Damn that was a good answer." He turn his head and whispers. "Well that's good enough for me, let me know when the wedding is girls." He laughs. "Daddy you said you'd behave and here you are ready to give me away for marriage." Cass whines as we get up to help her mom clear the table. "What, at least you know you have my blessing." He laughs again.
After the table's clear Cass and I head up to her room. Cassidy locks her door before turning around and wrapping her arms around me. "Dad was right, that was a good answer earlier. Did you mean it?" I nod, lean my forehead on hers and whisper "Every word." I gently kiss her.
"Why does it feel like we've been together for so long but it's only been about two months?" She closes her eyes and puts her head in the crook of my neck. "Maybe because we basically were together just without all the, you know, kissing."
We stay like that for awhile, just holding each other in silence. My phone vibrates and it's just my dad asking if I'm coming home. "I should head out." I sigh and pull back.
"No don't go." Cassidy weaves her fingers through mine. "Spend the night with me."
