Imagine being best friends with teenage Syd since you lived right next door to him. You had had the biggest crush on him for the longest time now, but didn't have the guts to tell him and he was totally oblivious. One day you were out at a club watching him perform with his new band, that already had quite the following and he was crazy excited about it. You smiled up at him from the front row, in awe of his talent. He played flawlessly in the flashing lights of the club, making the atmosphere dreamlike. They wrapped up the show and you excitedly waited for him to come back out so you could tell him how amazing he was. Soon enough the backstage door opened revealing Syd and the rest of the band. You smiled immediately when you saw him and you were just about to make your way over to him when you saw a pack of groupies surround them. Syd looked a bit taken aback at first, but soon enough he was all smiles as he spoke to them. Your smile however, had vanished. You felt a stab of pain as you watched him with them. Before he could see you, you decided to slip out. You ignored the sick feeling in your stomach as you walked home. As soon as you walked through the door you allowed your tears to run before you headed to your room and locked yourself in. You eventually fell asleep, thankful to forget about it for awhile. A few hours after you drifted off you were awoken by the sound of something hitting your window. You got up and looked at the clock which read 1a.m. You groaned as you made your way over to the window to see what it was. You opened it up to see that Syd stood there in the dark looking up at you.
"There you are," he said as a smile formed on his face, "you had me worrying about you."
You rolled your eyes and turned towards your bed again while you said loudly, "Well, you know where I am now, so goodnight."
His brow furrowed in confusion at your harsh tone, "Hey," he called making you turn back towards the window, "want to come outside?"
"No," you said flatly.
He seemed a bit hurt now, which you couldn't stand seeing, and you groaned as you relented, "Fine."
You climbed out of the window and hit the ground, which wasn't too far beneath you, with a thud. Syd smiled again and you barely returned it.
"(Y/n), what's the matter? Why didn't you stay after the show?"
"Don't worry about it," you mumbled before starting to walk towards the sidewalk, but he quickly jogged in front of you to prevent you.
"I'm not blind, you know, I can see that look on your face," he said in a more serious tone now, "what happened?"
"You must be," you mumbled.
"What does that mean?"
You were quiet for a moment as you looked over him. His eyes wandered yours with confusion. You could still feel the hurt from earlier that night in the pit of your stomach as you looked at him, "I can't do this anymore, Syd," you said just barely above a whisper.
"Can't do what, what are you talking about-?"
"I can't pretend to be your friend anymore, I can't pretend that I'm content with that," you yelled over him.
He seemed confused for a moment, but his eyes widened just slightly as your words registered. You sighed and shook your head while you tried to ignore the hot tears threatening to spill out again at any moment.
"So there, I've said it," you said in a shaky voice before you turned away from him again, "just go. Have a good rest of the night with your groupies, I'm sure they'll be more fun than I am right-"
But he turned you around again, grabbing you by your shoulders firmly, "now," you finished your sentence in a hushed tone as you looked into his green eyes which were intently burning into yours.
Without hesitation he leaned in quickly and kissed you. You felt a wave of relief immediately wash over you as he wrapped his arms around you to hold you closer to him. You threw your arms around him and felt that awful feeling in your stomach turn into butterflies, which happily fluttered about as you held onto him. His kiss was everything you'd dreamed it would be; soft, gentle, and pure bliss. After awhile, he pulled away out of breath and leaned his head against yours. You both let out a bit of an embarrassed laugh as you stood there catching your breath, his hands on your waist and your arms draped around his neck. Your eyes wandered up to meet his, which were happily looking back at you.
"You should have done that sooner," you said, making him smile.
"I should have, but," he said as he squeezed you tighter, "now I can do it all the time, yeah?"
"You certainly can," you through giggles before he softly pressed his lips to yours again.
He sighed as your lips moved against his, "I love you, you know," he said in between kisses, "I always have."
You had to keep from bursting with joy as he spoke those little words against your lips. You smiled uncontrollably and he pulled away giggling.
"I always have too, Syd."
