"Are you ready nathan?" Tom asked me snapping me out of my thoughts.

No. I'm not ready.

"Yeah. the sooner we get there, the sooner we can go."

"That's the spirit Nath!"

I followed Tom outside, walking at a snails pace and frowning. As much as I wanted to go to Jay's and find out what had been going on, I also didn't want to know.

"C'mon Nath, you can walk faster than that. It'll be Christmas by the time we get there" I rolled my eyes but did as I was told and walked faster, catching up to Tom.

---

"I'm sorry I can't" I told Tom, tears running down my face and my heartbeat erratic.

We was outside Jay's, Tom had his finger hovering over the door bell ready to press it but I wasn't ready to face Jay, face all the answers to the questions that I want to know.

"Why?" Tom asked walking closer to me, putting his hand on my shoulder.

"What's wrong?" He continued.

"I just can't, I'm not ready."

I saw the blinds twitch in the living room window and then I saw Jay's blue eyes peering at me with confusion I saw a wide smile appear on his face and then in a flash he was gone.

"Nathan!!" Shouted Jay happily from the front door.

"I-I have to go" was the last thing I said before I started legging it down the street.

---

3 weeks.

It's been 3 weeks since I ran away from Jay. I've been ignoring all his calls and texts, even when he comes to the house I get Tom or someone to tell him that I don't want to speak to him.

Once I'm pretty sure I saw him stood outside my college but luckily he didn't see me as I mixed in with the crowd.

It was a Tuesday which meant work for me. I liked where I worked, the people that I worked with were nice and so were the customers, well most of them.

"Here's your change and your coffee, have a nice day my love" I said with a smile on my face to the old woman, passing her the coffee and the correct change.

"Thank you dear" she said before sitting down on one of the seats closest to her that was free.

There was no other customers to be served and my co-worker Matt had gone on his break so I decided to go and clean some tables.

I heard the chime of the bell above the door signalling someone had just come in, I'm guessing they were customers as the pair was asking each other what they wanted.

"I'll be with you in a minute" I told them not even looking up as I picked up the rubbish of the table and threw it away.

"Yes, what can I get you?"

"Could I have two hot chocolates and a cinnamon bun please?" I heard the oh so familiar voice. It was Jay.

Shit, what do I do?

Act natural.

"Of course" I said with a fake smile.

"Large or small?"

"Large please" the girl that stood next to Jay spoke this time.

"Coming right up, staying in right?" They both nodded.

"So who's this lovely girl, Jay?" I asked him in a fake happy tone.

"Oh this is- erm a"

"A friend, I'm Emma. You must be Nathan. Jay's best friend, am I right?" She spoke in a posh accent, sticking out her hand for me to shake.

"Oh yes, me and Jay are the best of friends" I said falsely, shaking her hand.

I handed them their hot chocolate and their cinnamon bun.

"Enjoy, have a nice day, lovely meeting you Emma!"

Matt had come back now so I asked my supervisor if it was okay for me to go on my break now.

"Yes of course, make sure your back in 15 minutes" he said.

I nodded and told him that I would be back, but truth was. I never returned.
