Chapter 23

A year has passed and Nixon and I are in collage. We both rent one trailer and live in that sense we are almost done with school. The cool thing about our trailer is that it has a wall in the center so we both have our side of the trailer I get left and Nixon gets right.We both were able to get scholarships for an early collage after we graduated high school a couple of months ago. Our horses are back in the magic realm in the palace stables.This is our last year here at the collage, last week actually. Nixon and I graduated yesterday. Now we are in the process of moving back to were we used to live. I am in my half of the trailer in my room finishing off packing up my shoes and clothes. I finish that and take the box out to my car. I have a simple 2014, black convertible, Chevrolet Mustang that I bought just before we left for collage. Nixon has a blue, 2014 Ford Fusion that he bought just before we left. My car already has six boxes in it and there's plenty more in the trailer. I go back in my half and gather up the rest of my belongings, put them in a box, tape it up and put it in the back seat of my car. Then Nixon walks out of his half and puts two boxes in his car. "That was my last two, want some help with what you got left?" He asks. "Yeah, sure, there's just for left and I can't lift them." I say. "Ok, I got it." He says as we walk into my half he gets the two down stairs and puts them in my car and then dose the last two upstairs and shuts the trunk of my car and both back doors. We go in our trailer one last time to check every thing. Nixon and I meet at our cars. "Ready to go home?" He asks. "You know it." I say. "Wonder how the horses are doing?" He says. "Guess we'll have to find out when we get there." I say. Nixon opens my car door to the drivers seat. "After you." He says. "Thanks." I say as I get in the car, turn the engine on and roll down the window. Nixon shuts my door, then he gets into his car and rolls his windows down. I pull out on the road and just before we stop at the stop light I push the button to roll down the top. We both stop at the red light and as soon as it turns green I rev up my engine and take off. Nixon and I have our cell phones programmed into a screen in our cars. After that Nixon calls my phone. I use the touch screen and press the answer button. "Show off." He says. "I try." I say. I hit the end button and tell my car to open maps and locate home. I find the right map and follow the right path to home. At our last stop light till we only have five miles to be home, the light turns red and we both stop. Nixon is in the left lane and I am in the right. He rolls down his windows and yells "Hey sexy lady! Wanna come home with me?" He asks. He always dose this when we take a tip. I turn red and laugh at all the expressions of peoples faces all around us. "Yeah, sure!" I say back. The light turns green and we both take off. When we turn to go to our houses I see Bexley on the side walk and honk my horn. Nixon dose the same. Bexley waves and sequels. I turn in my drive way and Nixon turns in his which is right next to mine. We had to move because of a storm that destroyed both of our old houses. My new house is a simple white,one story with a small back yard and rocky drive way and small porch in the front and a willow tree next to it. Nixon's house is next to mine, he has a two story house, with a big back yard and a field, rocky drive way,horse barn in the back, big porch on the front,small one in the back, and his little workshop on the corner. The only thing separating us is a wooded trail and a big fence. I unload my things and wait for Nixon to come visit. After about thirty minutes of waiting here he comes hoping over my fence and knocking on my back door. I open it and let him in. "Ready to see our horses?" He asks. "You bet!" I say. We go down a new path we found that's a little longer but it still leads to the portal. Hand in hand there we go down the path. We go through the portal and meet Chaney at the stables and our horses are very glad to see us. We saddle up, thank Chaney for watching them and then go on a ride. We ride back home and to Nixon's house. After we put up the horses and go to my house we hear Midnight out back. Nixon dose not know about Midnight nor has he seen her yet. "Wait here." I say as I go out back. I turn around to see not only Midnight but Luna two. I hug them both. "Kate so good to see you again I've missed you both!" Says Luna. "Were have you been Luna?" I ask. She moves to the right and revels a little pup that looks identical to Midnight. "Oh Luna! Look at that, your a mother!" I say. "Is Nixon here?" Luna asks. "Yeah he's inside i'll go get him." I run back inside. "So what was that?" He asks. "Well,Nix...do you remember when Midnight....ya know..." I say. Nixon gets up and puts his arm around me. "Yeah,so?" He says. "Well she comes to visit sometimes and Luna's back." I say. He looks like he's going to pass out. "S-shes alive?" He asks. "Yeah, and she gotta surprise for you." I say. "Were is she?" He asks. "Come on." I say. I open the door and Nixon slowly walks out there I follow behind him. "My how tall you've gotten!" Says Luna to Nixon. We are right in front of them. "Hello Nixon." Says Midnight. "H-hey Midnight...but I thought you.." She nods. "I did Nixon, but I am an angel now." She says. He nods. "I've got a surprise for the both of you." Says Luna. She revels her pup, then picks it up by the nap of it's neck and hands it to me and Nixon. "But Luna we can't take this,it's your pup." I say. She shakes her head. "No, it's is not mine it is Midnight's I have been taking care of it for her." She says. "Kate,Nixon it's your's I want you to have it. I never got a chance to tell you or show you but i'm here now." I hand the small pup to Nixon and hug Midnight. "Thank you Midnight." I say. "This will be a little piece of me that is for you. Take good care of him ok." She says. "We will, I promise." I say. "He's a hybrid like you, when he gets older he will look kinda like a wolf and kinda like a dog." She says. "What's his name?" Asks Nixon I get up and stand next to him. "Quill." She says. "It's beautiful." I say. "Kate,Nixon, I'm afraid this will be my last visit." Midnight says. Nixon sets the pup in front of Midnight. "Are you coming back mama?" Asks the little pup. "One day you will see me again my little one, for now these nice people will be you family ok?" Tears stream down my face. Midnight takes her nose and gently bumps his head up and says to him. "Ok now chin up, no tears ok?" The little pup hugs Midnight. "Ok mama, I love you." He says. "I love you too my little one. Now go to Nixon ok?" She says. Nixon squats down and the little pup runs to him, he scoops the pup up and holds him in his arms. I hug Midnight title. "You'll see me again." She says when I let go, I wipe away my tears and say "I know." Just as she fades away Quill says "Goodbye mama!" Midnight howls then shes gone. Luna nods and runs into the woods I run into my house and into my room, I shut the door and cry silent tears.
