Nixon and I have been married for three years now. Today is our anniversary, I got home from work early today and I have a huge surprise for Nixon. It's something he's always wanted. He has told me that he is taking me out to dinner tonight right after he gets home from work. Quill is full grown and he acts like an over grown puppy. Nixon get's home late tonight. He comes through the door. "Nixon are you ok?" I ask. "Yeah, i'm fine, just a little tired." He says. Nixon and I have two children, one boy named Thomas who Nixon calls Tommy, and one girl who is the eldest named Annmarie. "You ready to go dear?" He asks. I make him sit down. "Nixon you need to rest we can do dinner later." I say. Our children walk in the living room. "Mama what's wrong with Daddy?" Thomas asks. "Yeah is he ok?" Annmarie asks. "Daddy's not feeling very well so were gonna take care of him for now ok?" I say to the both of them. "Now let me make sure he's not sick then you can help me ok?" I say. "Ok." They both say. I feel his  head. "Your not hot at all." I say. "Ann, can you go get me my medical bag please?" I ask. "Yes Mommy." She says. as she goes up the steps and comes back down very quickly and hands me the bag. "Thank you dear. Now Thomas, can you please find the thermometer for me in my bag." He digs through the bag and hands the tool to me. I take Nixon's temperature. "Hmm.Your not running a fever, do you feel sick at all?" I ask Nixon. "No not really, just pretty tired." He says. "Go ahead and go to bed I'll fix you some dinner and we'll see how you feel in the morning." I say. I help Nixon up the stairs and put him in bed. "Now you stay put. I mean it." I say. "Ok." He says. "I'll send Thomas up to keep you company." I say. "Ok, little Tommy can be my substitute doctor." He says. I smile and go down stairs. "Thomas, go keep your father company, Quill you keep watch and let me know if Nixon needs anything." I say. They nod and go up stairs. "Annmarie, will you help me make your father some dinner?" I ask. "Yes Mommy." She says. I get out ingredients to make fresh, homemade, chicken and rice soup. Annmarie and I make the soup, I carry it up stairs, and let Nixon eat. I make the kids go down stairs. "Kate, you and I know whats wrong with me." Tears fill my eyes. "Kate, I wont be on this earth much longer and you know it." In steady streams tears flow like rivers crashing onto the floor. Nixon gently wipes them away. Quill stands next to me with his head on the bed. "Go get the kids." He says. Quill goes down stairs and comes back up with both our kids, he waits in the hall. "Tell them, please Kate." He says. I nod, and get up to go to the hall Quill stays with me. "Is daddy alright mommy?" Annmarie asks me. "In a way yes, but daddy is going to go away for a while ok, but he'll be back one day." I say. "Is daddy dyeing mom?" Thomas asks. "Kids i'm so sorry, but..." They hug me tightly. "Yes." I say. I hold both of them as they cry. "I'm so sorry. I really am." I say. We all stop crying and go back in the bed room. "Goodbye Kate, I can't wait any longer." He says. I brush the hair from his eyes. "Goodbye Ann, Tommy..." He says. "Goodbye Kate." He says. He slowly closes his eyes and gives his last breath. "Goodbye Nixon." I say.
