Now They Walk

First Day

-Jake-

My alarm went off. 6:00 exactly.

I laid in bed. Considering if I wanted to go or not. I decided too.

I stood up and grabbed a clean shirt. I put my boots on and grabbed my book bag. It still had some stuff from last year in it.

I stepped out of my room. Steve was still laying on the couch. Mom must've went into the room.

He was never usually asleep this long. Maybe somethings wrong.

I stopped staring at him. Hopefully something is wrong.

I walked into the kitchen. Dishes piled in the sink and the floor was hideously dirty. Cracks in the tile and stains on the white counter.

It use to look like the cleanest kitchen ever. Now its this.

I grabbed a soda out of the fridge and walked out the house. The sun wasn't fully up yet. The sky looked half black and half purple. Kinda pretty.

I walked to the edge of my driveway. I stood right next to the mailbox.

The name was faded and covered in vines. The red mailbox was barely standing.

The buses lights cut through the darkness. It came to a stop.

The bus was pretty loud. Even on the first day of school.

We stopped at what seemed like the thousandth house.

I could hear boots hitting the steps into the bus. When Jake got on the bus, everyone got a little quieter.

His taller figure was dark and slender.

The bus driver said something to him, but I couldn't hear it.

He stood their for a couple of seconds, then started walking to a seat.

I looked up.

Fucking assigned seats.

Jake's name was with mine on the paper slip.

"Hey, makin room?" He asked. His voice was pretty low, on the edge of gravely.

I scooted over, moving my book bag with me.

He pulled out a drink from his bag and popped it open.

"Hey, no drinks on the bus" the bus driver said loud

"I'll make it disappear" he said before chugging the drink

"Is that better?" He asked turning it upside down. The bus driver just shook his head.
