-Jake-

16 months... it's been 16 months since all of this began. To my knowledge it's December. And the cold weather is a testimony to that.

The government hasn't given anything short of a big fuck you to us. I guess they are trying to quarantine people. But the 6 of us have avoided them all.

Me, Nate, Alyssa, Teresa, Sarah and Damarion. The only thing that seemed to survive from the first few days.

"Just keep quiet" I said to Nate

"I know" he responded

We heard something moving in the other room. Could be a survivor.

We made our way out of Atlanta after the checkpoint. And for some reason we are dumb enough to go back in. We only go in for supplies though.

We usually sneak our way through the various buildings, having few ways from basement to basement, and even building to building.

We are on the fifth floor of some random building we ran into. We had to hide from a pack of the dead. And their is something or someone in here with us.

We walked up to a half open door. The sound was coming from in their.

I gestured towards the door, telling him to open it slowly.

He started to push it with his fingertips, going ever so slow.

I slowly bent around the corner. I seen something move and then jolted into he room.

A group of pigeons flew out the window in a gust and flap of their wings.

"Just pigeons" Nate said smiling

"It's not funny" I said seriously

We turned around. Seeing an unusual sight.

The young boy stood in the middle of the hall, his small pistol up. His hair reached his neck and his clothes were dirty and torn.

"It's ok" Nate said calmly

"Monsters" he said quickly

"The monsters aren't going to get you, we can keep you safe" I said

Nate gave me a look. Don't know if it was a good one or a bad one.

He lowered his small pistol and then ran over to us.

"Can we leave?" He asked plead fully

"Yes, we are leaving" I said

Nate walked behind him and I walked in front.

The three of us continued down the hallway, meeting a hole in the center. The indoor gorge extended to the floor below this one, soon the next hole will lead to the floor below that. Then so on.

"Watch your steps" I said. I pointed it to no certain person though.

I went across first, going slow against the bare edge.

"Now you" I said pointing towards the boy

He came across slowly. Just as I did, putting his small feet right where mine went.
