The Williams Household

30 days until Halloween

Midnight was the witching hour for people like Marie Williams. Being a Wicca, she loved the moonlight as she did her spells. And tonight, she felt something wrong with the town of Sleepy Hollow – the short story of the Headless Horseman seemed to be more and more real to Marie than fantasy. The older Wicca was getting the living room ready for her protection spell on her three children.

The candles were flickering on the mantle of the living room. Standing in front of them, she closed her eyes, pressing her hands together in a praying motion in the center of her chest. Marie focused on the candles' energy, wanting the spell to go perfectly for each child.

The white candle represented peace and purity.

The black represented protection so did blue.

Red meant survival.

Her eyes remained closed as she felt her body slowly go numb, letting the emotions wash away from her. She spoke in hushed tones as she spoke the spell of protection on her eldest child, Jarred. He was the least of her worries but spoke the spell three times like always. Next was the middle child, Tabitha, Marie slightly worried about her oldest daughter but not as much as her youngest.

"Elements of the Sun, elements of the Day, please come this way. Powers of the Night and Day, I summon thee, I call upon thee, to protect Kat! So mote it be." Marie chanted for Kat Williams, the youngest of the three kids. Kat was currently in a rebellious act that Marie honestly could not stand. So, she hoped that the protection spell worked on Kat, for once. Just as she began the third chant, she heard her daughter.

"Ma?" Yawned Katarina "Kat" Williams. The youngest came into the living room, rubbing her eyes. "What are you still up?" She asked.

Marie quickly blew out the candles that were lit, forgetting to finish the protection spell on her youngest. She turned, seeing Kat standing there in her long sleep shirt that previously belonged to Jarred. "You are at it again, aren't you?" Kat sounded disappointed.

"Just a simple house protection spell, Kat. You know how October gets around Sleepy Hollow." Marie told her. Kat knew a house protection spell when she heard one – and that wasn't one. Kat stood there long enough to hear it was a person protection spell. "You know I cannot help it." Marie said, picking up the freshly burnt candles.

"You know how dad gets..."

Marie closed her eyes, before placing the candles back down onto the mantle. Marie Williams née Talbot was a classified Wiccan. She was trained in the ways of the Wicca, using candles and stones to her advantage. However, she was more into the elements rather than the darkness. The moment she married Peter Williams, they agreed not to force their children into her lifestyle – which she didn't mind at all.

The kids didn't care – Kat was fascinated with the culture, Jarred could careless, and Tabitha was the only one who was fully into what their mother did.

"Like I told you, Katarina," Kat looked down at her bare feet. Whenever her mother called her Katarina, she was either in trouble or was going to be in trouble shortly. "I was doing a house protection spell. What are you doing up?" Marie asked, turning her attention to her daughter.

"Midnight snack." Kat turned on heels, going towards the kitchen. Marie watched Kat move, grabbing an ice cream sandwich from the freezer.

"How's Remy?"
