Sleepy Hollow High School

29 days until Halloween

Kat was standing around, making her best friends do the same. They were waiting around outside their next class, which was English. Kat was waiting to see when Wednesday Harris was arriving – she told Harris, she'd look out for his sister. Kat wanted to know the girl, she seemed interesting.

"Kat, come on, we're going to be late."

"We are standing literally by the door, Mr. Oliver saw us already." Kat commented, looking up and down the hallway. She even stood on her tiptoes.

"What are you even doing?"

"I'm looking for the new girl."

"And who says she's starting today?"

"Her brother."

Remy and Felix both stood there, shocked expression on their faces when Kat said that. Remy's mouth dropped open, staring at Kat. She spoke to Sean Harris. "You-you talked to Sean?"

"He prefers Harris."

"What?"

Kat looked at her friends. "He prefers to be called by his last night. He told me." She stated with a simple shrug. "And he told me his sister, Wednesday would be starting today." Kat added.

"His sister's name is Wednesday, and she's starting on a Wednesday?" Remy mocked, arms crossed.

"Rem, enough."

"I had the make that joke."

The bell rang, signaling that the freshmen had to get to class. Kat entered, going straight to her desk. Remy and Felix did the same – sitting next to and around Kat. Just as Mr. Oliver began class, there was a knock on the door. Kat glanced up from her notes about the Lord of the Flies, seeing Wednesday Harris entered.

She looked so timid and nervous.

Their principal stood next to her, interrupting class. "Students, this is Wednesday Harris, she'll be starting her freshman year today and will be graduating with your class in '99. Please show her around and make her feel welcome with our Horseman spirit." Mrs. King told the students.

Some snickered at her first name.

Kat grinned in Wednesday's direction.

"Who would like to be her buddy for the next couple-"

"I will." Kat held up her hand instantly, interrupting their principal. Mrs. King glanced to Kat Williams before nodding.

"Excellent, Miss Williams. Sorry to interrupt your class, Mr. Oliver, please continue with...Lord of the Flies. ...What an interesting novel." Even Mrs. King hated Lord of the Flies as much as the students did.

"Miss Harris, go sit next to Miss Williams. Here's your copy of the novel, she'll help you out with the rest." Mr. Oliver said, handing her the tattered novel. Wednesday looked at Kat, hesitating before sitting next to her. "Now, as I was saying..."

"Turn to page 172." Wednesday nodded her head, trying to figure out what was going on during English. "I'll take notes for you, Wednesday. Mr. Oliver talks fast, and normally no one can copy down his notes fast enough, so, don't worry about it." Kat said.

"Oh, thanks."

"Don't mention it."

Remy leaned over, grabbing Kat by the elbow, "What the hell are you doing?" She hissed quietly.

"Being friendly, you should try it."

Sleepy Hollow High School Cafeteria

"You are from Albany, New York?" Kat asked.

"Yeah...I don't remember much but all I know is that Sean is my family, and since our aunt's passing, he thought coming back home to his hometown would be good for me." Wednesday stated during lunch. She was sitting with Kat Williams, Remy Martin, and Felix Mars.

"Why?" Remy asked, picking at the curly fries off of Felix's tray.

"Oh, I was homeschool until yesterday."

"Why?"

Wednesday went silent, looking down at her lunch she brought with her that day. She made it herself, knowing she'd be eating alone. But that changed with Kat Williams – she was different than Harris spoke about. He spoke about this over-confident teenage girl with a rebellious streak, but the Kat that Wednesday met was sweet with no evil bone in her body.

"Rem, maybe school as difficult for her before she came here. Maybe their aunt just wanted to homeschool them – homeschooling has a lot of benefits." Kat snapped.

"Yeah, like being anti-social."

"Do you have a bitchiness off switch?" Kat asked.

"Nope."

"People have different reasoning's for why they homeschool their children – illness, terrible school system, a disability, who knows." Kat explained.

"Why do you care? You've never cared about new kids that came." Remy stated, tossing back her red hair. Kat rolled her eyes, seeing that Wednesday wasn't even paying attention to the conversation. "Is this because of Sean?"

Kat's head snapped towards Remy. "What does that even mean?"

"Holy shit."

"What now?" Felix groaned, smacking Remy's hand away from his fries.

"Is somebody crushing on the senior?" Kat glared instantly. "Knew it."

"Yes, because I'm you. You aren't even fifteen yet, and how many guys have you slept with?" Kat asked. Wednesday's head snapped up, wide eyed at Remy Martin. "Doesn't matter. You have a crush on a former mental hospital patient." Remy said, standing up from the table.

"What are you talking about? And where are you going?"

"I have detention, I forgot."

"Oh! What did Remy Martin do this time?" Felix asked, rubbing his hands together. He smirked in her direction.

"Mr. Phillips found me making out with Travis Denton." Remy shrugged. "The linebacker?" Felix questioned. She nodded before walking off in the direction of the art room.

Kat shook her head, glancing over to Wednesday. She looked overly shocked and scared for a second. "Don't worry about Remy, Wednesday. She may seem...extreme, but she's actually quite nice once you get to know her." Kat explained.

"Just don't get on her bad side, or it is hell."

"That too."

Wednesday nodded her head, still confused. "Um..." Wednesday glanced between Kat and Felix. How did Remy know about her brother's in-patient treatment at Phelps Memorial Hospital? Sean wasn't crazy – he was just different, like her. "I forgot, I was going to see the principal during lunch. I have to go." Wednesday gathered her belongings, rushing out of the cafeteria without another word.

Kat sighed, looking down at the floor. She tilted her head in confusion as she picked up charm from the floor. It was a pentagon charm with symbols all around it, symbols she didn't know.

"What do you have there?"

"I think Wednesday dropped it – it's a pentagon. My mom has a similar one hanging in her car." Kat said, going to hand it over to Felix when a scream echoed. Her head snapped towards the scream – she knew that scream. "Remy!"

The students went running, leaving their supplies and bags in the process. Kat pushed through, seeing the redhead just shaking. Her arms were around herself, looking at the scene in front of her. The art room was splattered in blood. As Kat approached, it was clear who was killed – beheaded.

Mrs. King.
