The Williams Household

27 Days until Halloween

Kat sat on the front porch of the house, eating a green apple that her mother picked up from the market earlier that morning. She was sketching the house across the street – wondering what it looked like on the inside. Kat always wondered, but alas, she'd never find out. The house was now someone's home and the town couldn't use it for parties anymore unless Harris gave permission.

Setting down the apple, Kat sat Indian-style. Using a simple pencil, she sketched away without a worry in the world. Tabitha went off to her boyfriend's house for the afternoon to work on homecoming things. As soon as the students got back on Monday, the homecoming king and queen nominations would be out. Then that weekend would be the big game and the dance.

Jarred left around 6 in the morning, going off to practice at the field at the high school. Sleepy Hollow had to win the football game, or least. They couldn't lose to Ossining High School. So, he was off as captain of the team, doing what he did best.

The cheer squad was meeting over the weekend since the coach had to be with her family during the day. She had two young children and couldn't bring them without needing a babysitter as well.

So, Kat just stayed at home, doing nothing. She was good at doing nothing. Except her mother always seemed to find something for her to do around the house – even if it was just an extra chore.

"Like Halloween, huh?" Kat looked up, seeing Harris standing on the sidewalk. His hands were in the front pockets of his jeans. The fourteen-year-old set down the sketchbook, nodding her head at Harris.

"Favorite holiday."

"Is that so?"

"It's also my birthday." Kat stated, standing up from the porch. She walked down the stone path towards him. "Pretty exciting life when your birthday is on one of the major holidays of the year." Kat grinned.

"So, only-"

"Only 27 days until I turn fifteen."

"You're only fourteen?" Harris was taken back by this – Kat looked older than she actually was. Kat nodded her head. "You're a freshman?" She nodded her head again. "You don't look like a freshman." He said.

"I developed quickly. Got boobs when I was in elementary school, 10 to be exact." Kat shrugged. Harris never got the impression that Kat was a freshman, if anything he would have guessed a junior or a senior. "Yeah, well, my siblings always complained when we were growing up that I always seemed older than I actually was. One time a woman asked if I was the oldest of the bunch, and that made Tabitha pissed." Kat smirked.

"Don't get along with your siblings?"

"Jarred, yes. Tabitha, hell no." Harris chuckled. "My ma only wanted two children, but my dad wanted three. So when she got two on the first try – boy and girl – she was thrilled. I was a surprise and dad was very happy. Tabitha wasn't, because she wasn't the only girl anymore in the house. She had to share the spotlight with me." Kat explained.

"Interesting."

"I heard you were an only child – how does Wednesday fit in then?" Kat asked, crossing her arms.

"My aunt adopted her when she was six weeks old and moved her to Albany. I didn't move in with her until I was fourteen, that's when I met Wednesday. We just...decided to call each other siblings." Harris explained.
