The Williams Household
Pizza was ordered for dinner; Peter was picking it up on his way home. Captain Martin gave his detectives the files to look over that weekend, spend time with their families, get ready for the homecoming game coming up next weekend. All three of his children were a part of the game – Jarred in the actual game, his girls were cheerleaders.
They deserved pizza for the terrible week they were having.
"Pizza!" Jarred yelled as soon as Peter arrived home. Tabitha squealed as she grabbed the boxes from their father, hurrying to the kitchen with them. "Extra cheese with black olives for Kat." Tabitha passed over the pizza to her little sister.
"Thank God! They got the olives right this time." Kat said, picking off one of the olives. She grinned as she swallowed. "Yum!"
"Everything pizza minus colored peppers due to dad's allergy for Jarred and dad." Jarred grabbed to slices right off the bat, putting them on his plate.
"Just a plain cheese pizza with pepperoni for ma." Marie was the only one that thanked Tabitha. "And a veggie lovers pizza for me." Tabitha grinned as she picked off a yellow pepper, popping it into her mouth.
"Thanks dad." Jarred said with a mouthful of food.
"Jarred."
"Sorry."
"So, anything excite happen today?" Peter asked, settling down at the dinning table. "Well, had football practice, it went...okay." Jarred began.
"Only okay?" Marie asked.
"Some of the guys are freaked that "their next."" He used air quotes. "The coach tried to tell them that no one else was next and what happened to Mrs. King was, yes, terrible, but a one time thing. Nothing like that's gonna happen again." Jarred told them taking a large bite of pizza.
Peter glanced to his wife, which didn't go unnoticed by Kat, she just didn't say anything.
"But, we're ready for the game – and to kick Ossining's ass." Jarred commented. Peter high-fived his son as Marie scolded Jarred for using language in the house.
"Tabbie?"
"I finished my history project with Alex this afternoon, then I met up with the cheer coach at her house to run some things by her for the routine. We'll be running it tomorrow and Sunday at her place with the rest of the team." Tabitha explained. Tabitha was the cheer captain. "So, you better not be late." She snapped at Kat.
"You're my ride."
"Exactly."
Kat rolled her eyes.
"Kat?" The fourteen-year-old looked up from her pizza she was in the middle of biting into. "Anything interesting?"
She instantly shook her head, not wanting to be involved in the conversation. She didn't want to bring up Harris. Marie looked at their daughter, eyes narrowed. Kat said nothing, just continued eating her pizza.
"Well, Tabbie, you don't have to worry about setting Kat up with one of the tennis jocks." Jarred commented. Kat's head snapped towards her older brother, hoping to God he doesn't say the person's name.
"Why?"
"Katarina's got a date."
Kat closed her eyes as her father's head snapped towards her. She became more interested in her dinner, fitting as much as she could into her mouth.
"Who?!" Tabitha gasped, looking at Kat. Kat muttered softly, chewing at the pizza in her mouth. "Oh, come on, Kat! Tell us! It's nice to see my sister's interested in boys – maybe it will make you stop wearing those horrid black clothes every day." Tabitha said.
Kat swallowed, looking at her family from the island. "Sean Harris."
Jarred a grinning but the Williams house went silent instantly. Kat knew that looked her father's face – every seemed to know more about Sean Harris than the rest of the students he was interacting with. Peter just stared blankly at Kat; she lost her apatite for pizza suddenly.
"Sean Harris?"
"Yeah."
"I told her she wasn't allowed to go out with him. Even if it for good sportsmanship." Marie told Peter. The detective glanced to his wife, giving her a look that she didn't understand. "Peter, you can't be supporting this? Not after...everything that happened with the Harris family." Marie commented.
"What did he ask you out to?"
"The homecoming dance – the cheerleaders and football players are expected to have dates. I was just going to ask someone from Sunnyside, but...he offered." Kat picked at the olives on her slice.
"You said yes?"
"He offered to be my date. I'm not planning on taking him behind the school, fucking him, and saying 'see ya later.'" Kat muttered.
"Katarina!"
"Marie,"
"If anything, I asked him."
"You are taking a senior to homecoming?" Tabitha's eyebrow was raised. Kat nodded her head.
"Has he told you anything about himself?" Peter asked, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "Besides that he moved to Albany when he was 14 to live with his aunt after his parents were killed in a car accident. He can't play football because of a knee injury. And Wednesday is his adoptive sister but she was born here before being fostered in by his aunt." Kat stated.
"Kat, as much as I would like you not to spend time with him, I know you. You'll find every way to see Sean Harris. Let me just warn you, he's not stable." Peter said.
"Not stable? What does that mean?" Kat asked.
"Great, Kat would find the mentally ill guy." Tabitha muttered.
"Tabitha, enough." Peter warned. Tabitha went silent, going back to her pizza slice. "When I got here, the car accident that delayed us, that was Sean's parents and himself. They were taking him away from Sleepy Hollow." Peter stated.
"Why?"
"There were rumors,"
"Dad, just get to the point."
"He was a mental patient at Phelps." Kat's face fell. With the limited conversations with Harris, there were no signs of him being mentally ill or been to the mental hospital ward at Phelps. "In and out, to be more correct on the matter." Peter added.
"You're lying."
"Kat!"
"Tell me why! Tell me!" Kat stood up from the island, facing her father. "I don't care if he was in and out of Phelps or that his parents were killed – he's someone new to talk to! Do you realize how few friends I have? All I have are Remy and Felix, that's all!" Kat shouted.
"Settle down, Katarina."
"You stay out of this!"
"Kat, do not speak to your mother like that!"
"Tell me why Harris was in Phelps, then I'll settle." Kat challenged, arms crossed.
Peter sighed heavily, rubbing the back of his neck. He looked up at his youngest. "He thought he saw the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow." Kat rolled her eyes. "He said that was the reason for all the beheading when we moved to Sleepy Hollow. Since he's back and hasn't mentioned it, I'm assuming he's gotten the help he needed in Albany with his aunt. But Kat, just...be careful." Peter told her.
"Yeah, like I'm gonna believe that bullshit." Kat commented, storming off.
"Kat!"
"I'm not hungry anymore."
