My head lulled to the side as the bright lights flashed in my face again. According to Draco, I've been here a week. Whenever the goons and he leave, I make the room and a bathroom or kitchen or whatever I need, but besides that, I can't get out. Draco made it some sort of imprisonment room. And here I thought he was dumb.
He came in one day with a smirk that about killed me. Harry knows Draco took me. He could tell. He caught Draco in the bathroom and used a spell Draco had never heard of, and he couldn't find it when he researched it. The first thing that popped into my head was 'the book' and 'Half-Blood Prince'. I wonder if Harry still has the book? Or did Snape get it? Draco says he left Harry with Snape...
"Oi! Wake up you lazy b-"
"Goyle! She's still my cousin!" Malfoy spat, and while I appreciated it, I wish he'd let Goyle on with it. Goyle gets mad easily and tries to hurt me when Draco leaves. It only makes things worse when he sticks up for me. I got lucky one time, Crabbe walked in and made him stop.
"I don't understand Malfoy! The old bat left with Potter, why aren't we starting?" Goyle growled, lifting me. I've been practicing wandless magic, but I just can't get it! I've been trying to someone my wand, that's all I need. Or for someone to find me. Yeah, that'd be nice.
"We have to wait! McGonagall is still here and they're all looking for her! Black has been in the castle, that filthy half breed-"
"You shut your mouth Malfoy! He's more a man and more a wizard than any of you will ever be!" As lady like as it is, I spit at Goyle. He glared at me and raised his wand, but my dearest cousin came to my rescue yet again. "What do you mean it's time?" My heart beat quickened as I remembered their earlier words. Dumbledore and Harry left. Harry got the memory from Slughorn.
And they left with out me.
I missed it, in one week I missed it. I was pulled from my thoughts when Draco started chanting. He opened that stupid cupboard I've watched him play with for a week, but this time something different happened. I let out a high pitched scream, hoping and praying this room wasn't sound proof. They're going to kill the students!
Death eater after death eater laughed mercilessly, Bellatrix came up, standing right in my face. "Is little Gracie scared?" She cackled, a cold smirk over taking her face. I glared at her and swung my arm out, decking her. When did they untie me? "Foolish girl!" Bellatrix snapped, handing me my wand. "You are going to give us the potion now! Or you will fight us until you die."
"What potion?" I'm so lost! Is that what they wanted from me, a potion?
"The Felix Felicis." Draco smirked, strolling towards me with his hands in his pockets. "I tried summoning it, but you were smarter than Potter. You put defense charms on yours." I couldn't help the proud smirk right there. "He wasted it, on that good for nothing Weasley!" Malfoy spit the last part like Ron was nothing. I hexed him before anyone had a chance to stop me.
"Immobulis!" I shouted, slowing everyone in the room as I took off running for the door. Some people shot spells, but even they were to slow, or completely frozen. "Bombardem!" I shouted, blowing open the door. "HELP! DEATH EATERS IN THE CASTLE! SOMEONE HELP ME!"
Footsteps came pounding. My family rounded the corner, along with Mione. Even Nat was there. Their jaws dropped and their eyes were wide. I took off running, trying to get to them, but Bellatrix came up behind me and slung me around. She had and arm wrapped around my waist and a wand to my head. "Daddy get everyone out of here! Evacuate the castle! Send for Professor Dumbledore and Harry! Go now!" I yelled, tears pouring down my face.
I'm done being strong, I'm done fighting. I always loose in the end. I'm so scared, not for me, I don't care about me. For my family and friends, even the people I'm not fond of. They have to get out of here! I'm going to die tonight, I don't see any avoidance. But, they aren't moving. They're standing there staring at me.
"Go! You're all about to have the whole student body killed if you don't leave now! I can, I can take care of myself! Nat, please. If you care about me at all, your daughter, you'll go. Save these people. Please!" I begged, knowing she was my only hope. If she went, Fred would go. If Fred went George, then Ginny, Ron, and Mione would follow. Molly and Arthur would follow their kids, Tonks would follow Nat, Remus would follow Tonks, Dad would follow him and Mum Dad. That means Grandma will follow Mum. All I need is Nat.
Her eyes welled with tears, but she took off running, screaming for kids to get out of the castle. My plan went perfectly, they all followed in my exact order. Any other time, I would have smiled. A few death eaters (some I knew) went to chase them, but Lestrange stopped them. "No. Give them a head start. Besides, I have a plan. Everyone to the Great Hall, NOW!"
I was drug there and basically became Bella's puppet. She tied my wrists and feet to stakes in the floor, recapturing my wand. Cheater. She said a spell and suddenly her voice echoed through the school. "We have your dear, brave little Gracelyn. She's sacrificed herself for all of you. If you want to see her live, you'll all be in the Great Hall within ten minutes." It didn't even take that. Some stared at me with weepy eyes, others horrified and looking at me as if I was a savior and their only hope. I'm sorry to disappoint. "Ah, look how loved you are!" Bella patted my cheek gently at first, like you would in a teasing way, then she reared back and fully slapped me. Several people winced. "Fenrir, go watch for Dumbledore."
"Yes m'am." He took off, snapping at students as he went, but he never touched anyone. That's when it hit me. I'm going to be an example. A show. I'm a stall until my headmaster gets here. And yet I'd just had them send for him. I'm only alive as long as he's gone. I braced myself for what is to come.
"Now. You all will watch, and if you close your eyes, you will die." Bella smirked cheerfully while I rolled my eyes. "If you interfere, you all die and so does she. The more you scream and cry, the more pain you inflict upon her. Unless you want to cough up some information, or a little potion called Felix Felicis." Her eyes narrowed. "You can stop it all. Just tell me, where she hides it. Or, tell me any information you dear children, or adults, can give regarding your headmaster."
I glared at the crowd. "No one says anything. I can take it. Don't you dare betray Professor Dumbledore! He would die for you and I'll die for him." I stated, keeping my eyes on my family. Then I remembered. I looked between Snape and Slughorn, both looked pained. Snape actually cares? Whatever. "And don't give her that potion. That little thing can bring Voldemort back and end with the death of everyone in this castle. I'm one person. It's not worth it."
"Aw, so brave." Bellatrix smirked and raised her wand. "Crucio!"
The pain was horrible. I dropped to my knees and bit my lip, burying the scream. Some girl screamed and the pain intensified. I start writhing and I slapped the raised platform I was on repeatedly with my bare hands. Bellatrix cackled, but Rookwood was furious.
"Move over Bella. You aren't doing it right, she isn't screaming." The curse was broken and I stood up.
"Filthy... cowards!" I panted, holding my sides. "You're, afraid!" I continued, smirking at them. Several people sucked in breaths, and Dean and Seamus chuckled. "Afraid to face me, with my wand!"
"Silence!" The hall had erupted, some cheering, some booing them, and others laughing. I smirked, waiting. "Let me show you how to do it properly. Crucio!"
I dropped, but I couldn't help but snicker. "You're weaker than Bellatrix!" More laughter. The pain intensified and I began writhing again. Still weaker than Bellatrix. It stopped and I stood up again, panting. My ribs were aching, I hope I hid it well. I caught Neville's eye and shot him a sympathetic smile. He gave me a brave one of his own, then closed his eyes, letting the tears roll down his cheeks. "Cowards." I grumbled, finally getting my breath back.
Yaxley stepped forward, growling. He cut the ropes and handed me my wand. "Stay put and fight!"
"You've got it!" I snapped, holding my wand tightly. We bowed as you would in a duel, but before he even raised, I had casted the first thing that came to mind. "Stupefy!" Yaxley, down. I turned to Rookwood and Bellatrix, glaring. "Who's first?" I snarled, holding my wand at the ready. I need Harry.
"I'll go!" Rookwood stood up and I smirked. Easy. "Crucio!"
"Protegus! Conjunctivitus! Loco Motor Mortis!" I smirked, casting all three spells before he had a chance to blink. Loud cheers erupted, but it was interrupted again when I was hit with the cruciatus curse. I tried to fight back, but I could feel my mentality slipping away. Almost like Frank and Alice.
Why did I have to bring that up?
This is actually peaceful, not having to remember anything anymore. Not worrying about anything. I'll miss my family and friends, but they'll still be with me. I hope I'll remember them.
"Bella! He's here!" Fenrir came running in. The curse stopped and she cackled, reviving her fallen partners. My breath came in slow quick pants as my thought train slowly came back. All off the death eaters, Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle all left. People came rushing to me, but I'm done. I felt my face freeze and I knew it wasn't a pretty face.
"Crucio!" I cried, hitting Bellatrix in the back. The whole room stopped to watch. I felt cold and evil, like her. But I guess we are related. "Just so you know Bellatrix, this isn't for fun. This isn't for a master. This isn't to torture a teenage girl, obviously you old bat. No. This is for all the people you hurt. All the lives you've ruined, the pain you've caused. This is for all these people who had to watch that. This is for three people in particular, though I won't name names."
Moody had come in during all of this and he hobbled over, seeming a bit shocked. "You've done well, better than well. You've done better than my top aurors. Now you have to stop. Let us take care of this. Come on, you can do it. Stop." He whispered, putting a hand on my shoulder. Bellatrix's screamed filled the rooms. I had tears running down my face.
"All this people! All of those lives! All the pain she's caused! She has to pay!" I cried, the emotion overtaking me. How can he expect me to stop?
"And she will Princess. I promise." Dad stepped up beside me, trying to force my arm down, but I couldn't stop. She won't pay. Voldemort will bail her out and it'll happen all over again. No. I have to put an end to this. I'd kill her if I thought I could do it, but I'm not that kind of person.
I shook my head, the tears falling freely now. Nat came up. "Gracie, listen to me. Do you want to be like her? I know you feel it, I can see it in her eyes. You feel cold. Dark even. This is changing you right here as we speak. Come on Gracie, stop!"
"No!" I screamed, stopping to my knees, but I did stop. I burst into tears as Dad scooped me up and passed me to Remus. "Its not fair!"
"I know sweetheart, I know." He soothed me, all of my family surrounded us. Trying to help me.
"Avada Kedavra!" Bellatix screamed, hitting a first year. The girl was dead. No.
"I told you! I told you!" I screamed, scrambling away from him. Draco was gone. Death eaters were firing spells. "The DA! This is what we trained for!" I called, making my way to Bellatrix. "Protect the younger kids. Get them to safety! Do whatever you have to do! They're trying to kill you, don't hesitate to fight back with all you have! Reducto!" I but Fenrir before he bit Parvarti. She sent me a grateful smile and whipped out her wand.
I followed Draco, Snape, Bellatrix, and Rookwood all the way up the stairs to the astronomy tower, there was Dumbledore. "Bellatrix I'm not done with you!" I launched myself at her, tackling her on the stairs. "I hate you! You killed her! You tortured them! You caused so much pain! You tortured me! I told them! I told them you'd get away!"
"I was impressed girl. That was a powerful cruciatus curse!" Rookwood yelped, throwing me off of Bellatrix.
"Shut up! Shut UP! NO ONE ASKED YOU! REDUCTO!" I screamed hitting him in the face. Professor Dumbledore was staring at me with a pained look in his eye. Rookwood is dead. I killed him. "I killed someone." I whispered, dropping my wand arm. "I killed someone. I'm no better than you." I said, a little louder this time.
"Gracie, you can't believe that sweetheart." Professor Dumbledore gave me a soft smile. "You'll never be like her. You're an amazing person. So strong. So brave. Tell me, did you use that curse? Where have you been?"
"Draco. He took me. The Room of Requirement. And yes Sir! I'm sorry! I do believe it! I used the curse and I killed someone!"
"Oh boo hoo! Poor little baby!" Bellatrix mocked, but I couldn't find the will to fight. What if I killed her? No matter what she's done, she's still family.
"Don't give up yet my dear. Not now, not ever. You're so much better than that!" Dumbledore patted my hand, smiling sadly. Wait. The plan. The plan I've heard a thousand times!
"Sir you have to go! They're going to kill you!" I jumped up and tried to help him up, but he only turned to Draco and began a conversation. This can't be happening. Where's Harry?
I began searching frantically and finally found him. Looking at me with wide eyes from user the cloak. I rushed down to him in tears, knowing they wouldn't miss my absence. Maybe Professor Dumbledore, but he'd know where I was going.
Harry opened his arms and I jumped into them, the tears pouring. He kissed me repeatedly, holding me tightly to his chest. "You are nothing like her." He whispered, looking me straight in the eyes. His lips crashed onto mine. Hunger, passion, longing, and an inexplainable fire were all wrapped up in that kiss. Until we heard the words. Both ours eyes darted up and we watched Severus Snape murder Albus Dumbledore. I screamed and took off running. I have to get to him. Harry chased Snape and Bellatrix onto the grounds, both of us hexing death eaters as we went. It seems like more have come?
I ran straight to Professor Dumbledore, doing everything I knew to do. I even tried CPR, thirty compressions to every two breaths. I don't know what to do! "Wake up wake up wake up!" I knew he wouldn't. I turned to watch Harry fighting Snape, he tried the same spell he used on Draco, or I think anyway. Based on the description that is. Like an invisible sword.
"You dare use my own spells against me?" What? "That's right Potter, I, am the Half-Blood Prince." Bellatrix cackled and they disappeared together, along with Greyback. Students rushed onto the grounds as Bellatrix swirled around me. I cast spell after spell at her, knowing it won't do anything.
"You coward! You're a rat! You're worse than Peter Pettigrew!" I snarled, reaching for the thin smoke. Harry had come running up, he, Ron, Mione, Nat, Dad, and Uncle Moony stopped. Was that too far? Bellatrix stopped and landed right in front of me. Several students backed away, but Harry came forward.
"How dare you! How dare you compare me to, THAT?!" She screeched. I scoffed.
"Someone is channeling their inner banshee!" I spit, glaring at her. Bella screamed loudly, aiming, but Harry disarmed her and caught her wand. "You are a rat. I'm not sure. You two are tied in my opinion. You, my dear cousin, are a BLOODY COWARD!" I said it slowly, as if talking to a small child and she only glared more. "I will do something you do not want me to do if you don't leave in the next thirty seconds." I handed her the wand and started counting down. "-3, 2, 1!" She disappeared right on one, the crowd behind me cheered, but they hadn't seen yet.
Harry wrapped his arms around me and we dropped together. Both of us kneeled before our old headmaster, crying. Grandma dropped beside of me, taking my hand and looking him over with the other. "He's dead Grandma. He's gone. Snape killed him! On top of the astronomy tower!" I cried, keeping my voice low enough so the other students couldn't hear
"We had to watch." Harry cried, tears streaming down his face. I took his face in my hands, he did the same to me and we wiped each others tears away. Harry's arms flew around me and I curled up on his lap, crying into his chest. Professor McGonagall shot a ball of light into the sky, I did the same, then Harry, one by one every student did it.
"No exams this year!" Professor McGonagall said, standing up. "Everyone needs to get packed. If we ever want to reopen the school, we'll have to get started on repairs and protection." Harry's eyes glazed over as yet slid to me, and his body stiffened.
"Harry!" I mumbled, clutching him tighter.
"Gracie." He whispered, kissing the top of my head. His eyes had softened and he wasn't so tense anymore, but I was confused. What was that?
"Professor, you can't honestly believe we're all going to leave tomorrow?" Ron asked, holding Mione's hand. That was the first time I noticed all of my family and friends standing there. Nat had a black eye, but despite the sadness written on her face, she looked pretty proud. I grabbed Harry's hand and started towards them. Daddy opened his arms, waiting. "We want to have a funeral for Professer Dumbledore."
I jumped into Daddy's arms, crying more. Harry kept my hand in his, rubbing soothing circles into it. "I killed someone Daddy. I killed Rookwood!" I mumbled, clutching at his shirt.
"It's alright Princess. He would have killed you! Don't you dare feel guilty sweetheart."
"But Harry watched!" I whispered, quieter this time. I peeked to make sure he couldn't hear me, but he was listening to Grandma with an emotionless mask. "How could he love me after that?"
Dad opened his mouth but didn't get a chance. Harry had spun me around, holding me tight to his chest. One arm around my face, his other hand cupping my face. "Like this." He whispered , crashing his lips to mine. Since we were in front of the whole school and my family, I blushed a lot, but I still kissed him back with all I had in me. He broke the kiss off suddenly, resting his forehead against my mine and looking me straight in the eye. "I love you no matter what. I saw what happened. I heard what he said. I know you're not a killer Gracie. You had to do what you had to do. I love you!" He rushed, I didn't notice Grandma ushering the students into the school.
Nat jumped on me from behind. "WE LOVE YOU TOO!" She smirked, hugging me. I giggled, and nodded, hugging her back.
"And I love all of you."
