Calliope

Somehow the police found out that Arizona had been sent home that day. They showed up, knocking impatiently on the door, while I was making us a late lunch. My lack of cooking skills had limited us to sandwiches and Arizona was sitting at the bat stiffly. When the knocks came she winced and her eyes went wide. "It's okay, Az." I quickly answered the door. "Hello?"

"Dr. Torres?" Detective Devin greets me. "May we come in?"

"Who is we?" I ask. Teddy had told me to be wary of them.

"Officer Little and myself," he said, indicating his partner. I allowed them to come in. "She's a little sensitive." I whisper.
He nods in understanding.

I turned to tell Arizona it was okay. "See Az, it's just," but Arizona was gone. I whirl around. "Zona?"

"Is Arizona here?" Devin asked.

I held my hand up and shut the door. I walked across the apartment and opened the bedroom door. I didn't see Arizona in there, but I searched anyways. Then I opened the bathroom door. Arizona was sitting quietly on the floor. "Zona?"

"Are they gone?" she asked.

"It's the police, honey," I say. "What are you doing in here?"

"When there is a knock on the door I must hide," she said automatically.

I helped her up. "No honey, not anymore." Leading, I brought Arizona out into the living room. The officers were standing politely by the door. "Arizona, this is Detective Devin."

"You saved me." She says.

"Yes." Detective Devin says, raising his hand for her to shake.

She violently backs away, but I put my arm behind her back. He immediately takes his hand back, keeping his distance. "Should we - should we uh sit down?"

"Certainly," I say, steering Az to the couch. I kept my arm around my girl protectively. She was incredibly tense, ready to run at a moment's notice. "To what do we owe this visit?"

"We wanted to check in with Arizona and yourself. And we also need to collect a statement from her," Devin said.

I tensed, but Arizona seemed to not have heard. "I don't think that is a good idea, sir."

"In order to keep them in custody, her attackers, we need a statement," he said. "Just simple."
He turned to Az. "Arizona, do you think you can answer some questions for your rescuers?"

She looks to me for guidance. I nod softly.

Klein jumped in, "Great. Arizona, these are just simple questions. We don't need a lot of details. Okay?"

"Okay."

"Officer Little is going to record this for us, okay? Now, do you remember what day you were attacked?"

"March 3rd." She watched Little cautiously.

"When were you rescued?"

"May 20th."

"Can you name your attackers?"

Her nostrils flared and I squeeze her knee reassuringly. "Whitney and Penny."

"Do you know their last names?"

"Blake."

"Could you point them out for us if necessary?"

Arizona fought to keep their images out of her head. "Ye-yes."

I gave Devin a warning look.

I did not like how this was going.

"Can you tell me what they did to you?"

She was assaulted with a barrage of images, as if the floodgates had opened. She relived moment after moment. "No, no," she whispered. Her volume grew. "No, no!"

"I think you should leave," I snap.

Devin continued to ignore me. "Arizona, tell us what happened."

Tears were rolling down her cheeks. "No! No!"

I stand up and grab Devin by his collar. "Get out of my apartment, right now!" I snarl in his face.

He didn't argue. I let go of him and he dismissed himself and Little. "Thank you for your time."

I shut the door in his face.
I was back across the room in an instant, cradling Arizona in my arms. "Shhh, Arizona honey. It's okay. It's okay."
