Remember when we used to play in the woods
The southern humidity never bothered us
We were always a team
Setting traps and leaving clues
Never aware of the concept of growing up
Remember when we discovered
The art of emotions
You never told me in person
But I knew
And a small part of me wanted you to know too
We couldn't stop time to run its course
Remember when I moved states away
Our bond of friendship never took a break
I spent my summers calling you everyday
You told me how in love you were with some girl
On my way home you called me saying you feel alone
Soon enough it all stopped
Remember when we forgot each other existed
Only a once in a while question
The quick communication through our handheld devices
Making sure we were still there
I always asked about you first
I made sure you knew you aren't getting rid of me yet
It seemed like a joke
But I couldn't sleep that night
Remember when it all ended
Only faint memories when we were young
How the concept of boy and girl was never a problem
You haven't changed your number
But I changed mine twice
I always keep yours
No matter the distance
Or if you think it's a lost cause
I still believe you're my best friend
I'll never strip the title
Not when we grew up together
Not when you still know everything about me
Not when you're the only one I'd rather see after all this time
Remember when life didn't get in the way
When I could still be playing in those woods with you
When I didn't need to get used to new weather
When we were still a team
When growing up didn't matter
Like it does now
