dear matty,
today was my tenth birthday! i think i'm going to write you a letter at every birthday until i see you again. i'm not sure if you got my last letter? i sent it to your address but you only got home from tour a month ago (i know because i looked it up on the computer at school. we still haven't got a computer at home) so maybe you haven't read it yet.
i had a really fun birthday. i was maybe hoping you'd come and visit again, but it's ok that you didn't because i know you're very busy. we had a party and all my best friends from school came. mum's boyfriend was there too, did you know she had a boyfriend? i don't really like him because he's too loud. i got so many amazing presents at my party. I wanted a puppy but mum said they take up too much room and our landlord wouldn't like it anyway.
i got my first ever guitar this birthday! it used to belong to my cousin but she doesn't use it anymore so guess what, now i'm learning to play! i wanted to learn to play some of your songs first, but they're too difficult for me at the moment. i promise I'll learn some by my next birthday.
this year at school i did my eleven plus and i'm going to secondary school next year. i'm so excited, but I'm a bit scared to go on the bus because my best friend told me the older kids bully you and call you names like retard and loser. but i'm going to be with my friends so i'm not scared.
i love to write stories now. they're about things like autumn and secret cities that no-one knows about. maybe one day i'll write proper books that get published.
i think you should know that mum is still quite angry with you because you haven't come to visit and she says you should be paying something called child maintenance. i know what that is now because mum's boyfriend told me.
it would be very nice if you could send over some money so mum won't be angry anymore, and so that i could get my school uniform next year without having to borrow from someone. but don't worry if you can't because it isn't that important.
it's been a good year, i think. i would love to see you if you have time to come visit! I hope you had a really great year.
write me back!
lots and lots of love, margo xxx
