Overhead || Nishinoya Yuu || Male
*Minor spoilers for the manga, however it probably won't matter all that much.
You were in the Karasuno Boys' Volleyball club, playing wing spiker. Similar to Daichi, you did more defense than offense. You were the best first year club member at receives.
That was what caught the Guardian Deity, Nishinoya Yuu's attention. He thought you were a fantastic player, and a bit of competition. He'd always compare his underhand receives to yours. However, the secret competition in his head quickly ended, when you were able to flawlessly return the ball to Kageyama with a perfect overhead pass.
The small libero tried everything to get better at that type of pass, but no avail. Overhead passes were just not his thing, and may never be.
Nishinoya saw you grow and grow in volleyball. Your spiking became better, so did your serves. With all your new talents combined, he began to feel inferior.
"Hey, nice one, Yamaguchi," Noya complimented. "That one was difficult to get."
Yamaguchi stepped away muttering, "But you were able to receive it so perfectly."
Kinoshita moved up, and got ready to do his jump float serve. When the ball was in the air, everything around Nishinoya seemed to disappear. His concentration was solely on the ball. He put his hands up ready for the receive. Everything was perfect, the ball collided with Noya's hands, but that's were everything fell apart.
The ball only went up a few centimeter before falling onto the ground in front of the short libero.
"GAAAAAAHHHHHHH! DAMMIT!" Noya screamed.
You looked over to where Nishinoya was having a bit of a break down.
**********
"Here's your towel, (L/N)-kun," Kiyoko said, handing you a towel.
"Thank you Shimizu-senpai," you said, grabbing the towel, and wrapping it around your neck.
You took a quick sip of your water before seeing Nishinoya standing in front of you. He looked desperate to ask you something.
"Can you teach me how to do an overhead pass, (F/N)-senpai?" Nishinoya questioned.
You began to smile, which then turned into you breaking down laughing. You could see that Noya's cheeks were dusted with a light pink.
"Why are you laughing?"
You had to take a moment to yourself to calm down before speaking. "Since when were you calling your underclassmen 'senpai'? I've never heard anyone older call someone younger that," you answered.
The pink on Noya's face grew to be even redder.
"But, yeah, I'll teach you how to do an over head pass. Is tomorrow good?"
"Yeah."
**********
"Okay, so an overhead pass is similar to a setter's toss," you began to explain. "Of course, there are differences between the two. You know how to do a toss right?"
"Yes," Noya replied.
It was a cool, autumn, afternoon. Both you and Noya took off lunch to practice together.
"Well the first thing is, you want to keep your hands a bit closer, and make sure your fingers are more firm," you demonstrated how whilst talking. "I guess that's the main points of it. We can go along and adjust if necessary. Here, let me show you."
Nishinoya threw the ball up, you passed the ball with no visible mistakes, and it landed right where Kageyama or Sugawara would be. Nishinoya looked at you, fairly impressed.
"You try," you said.
**********
Yuu and Nishinoya practiced receives for the rest of the lunch period, and for the rest of the week. It was next week when you could see the amount of improvement.
"Nice one Noya," you said.
Nishinoya ran over to get the ball.
"All that's left is practice, you got everything else down!" you called to him.
The energetic libero ran back over to you. He handed the ball to you, and paused in front of you before he spoke.
"(F/N)? . . ."
"Yeah?"
A blush spread across Nishinoya's feature's.
"To thank you for helping me, I'd like to take you on a date. . ."
