Chapter 17: Dazed

Landon P.O.V

You have got to be kidding me!  When I get my hands on this mother......

JJ interrupts my thoughts.

"Landon. We need to go. Now." He says.

We all climb into the car and high tail it back to the hospital.

Jade P.O.V

I'm half awake when I hear someone walk into my room. I open my eyes and only find a blurry figure standing next to my bed.

"Landon..? Is that you?" I croak softly. "I really missed you.." I trail off.

Suddenly, I feel a piercing sharp pain in my upper arm. Liquid is being injected into me and I can't do a single thing about it except wince and groan.

"Nnnghh." I groan trying to pull away my arm weakly but it's held firmly in place by a large hand.

My vision becomes darker and eventually fades into oblivion.

Landon P.O.V

Silently cursing to myself while JJ drives as fast as his car will take us, I'm sitting there completely white knuckled and unable to stop myself from thinking this is all my fault.

We finally arrive at the hospital and we all rush inside and don't even bother with the elevators, we just run up the stairs.

There's a huge crowd of nurses in Jade's room when we get there. I turn and look at JJ.

"What the hell." I say in an extremely angry tone.

JJ is fighting his way into the room and the nurses are pushing him back saying no one was allowed inside. The doctor was standing over her holding open her eye and waving a flashlight into it. What I vaguely heard him say made me swallow my heart and almost fall to my knees.

"Get the defibrillator." He says.

The nurses shove past one another and hand the doctor the defibrillator. He rubs it together and firmly presses it against Jade's chest and her body lurches off the bed. By this time tears were welling up in my eyes as I see him go at it again, making her body shake and lurch even further from the bed. Suddenly there's a faint beep coming from the machine.

"We got her." The doctor says turning off the machine. "We need to address her systems."

The nurses run to get IV bags and little bottles of medicine to attach to them. Within minutes they've already hooked her up and injected the medicine into the IV stream.

They finally allow us into the room almost half an hour later. JJ is talking to her doctor while I'm sitting there completely dazed and zoned out by the situation. The boys set up the stuffed animals and flowers they bought, on a table next to Jade. I chuckle softly to myself. For a girl that claims to have no friends she surely has enough get well presents. JJ comes back into the room looking very pissed and he calls out my name several times before I look up to him and respond.

"Sorry. I was lost in my thoughts." I apologize.

JJ sits down next to me and looks at me with a very serious expression.

"Landon, the shit that he injected into her is a mixture of a several sedatives and LSD." He said. "They said they've never seen anything like it. They also said that she's going to have a very rough night to get the drugs out of her system. Doc said she might start to vividly dream and be very 'active' in her sleep. If you don't want to stay all night we can take--"

"I want to be here." I say firmly not even looking at JJ.

"Landon, you look exhausted. Why don't you just take a short nap and I'll watch Jade?" He asks.

"No." I say coldly as I see him shake his head.

"Alright, fine. You better call me if anything changes, ya hear?" He says getting up to walk out.

I intently keep my eyes on Jade watching her sleep. Her eyes are rapidly moving back and forth underneath her eyelids. She really is in for a rough night.

I feel my body grow heavy and somewhat weak as I lean back in the chair and try to ward off sleep.

I slowly start to slip away into darkness.

Jade... I.. love you.
