Of course I told Jade I would cook for her. What kind of man would I be if I didn't? I told her I'd be back up with her food in just a little while and that she should rest in the mean time. Well let's get started.

Jade had requested her favorite, beef stroganoff. How the hell do I make that. If there's one person who knows anything about cooking, it's my mother.

I run downstairs and call out to my mom.

"Hey mom!" I say.

"Yes sweetie?" I hear her say from the living room.

"Um.. I have a question." I say looking at her with a puzzled expression.

"What's up?" She says muting the TV.

"Uhh.. how do I make beef stroganoff?" I ask.

She laughs.

"Mom! Don't laugh! I'm trying to be a gentleman!" I complain.

She laughs even more. "Okay okay, I have a good recipe that she'll like." She says getting up from the couch still wrapped in her blanket.

She pulls out a half sheet of paper with ingredients and instructions listed on it.

"We don't have any of this stuff but I can give you money for the grocery store." She smiles.

"Thank you mom." I say as I kiss her forehead.

She hands me at least 50$ in cash and I faintly hear her mumble "You're such a sweet boy."

I head out and pull my hood up on my jacket. Hell, it's cold. I get in my car and drive away from the house. I hope Jade likes it.. I'm not the best at cooking.

I get to the grocery store and start putting the things I need into a basket. Once I got everything I need to make the dish, I add up how much it'll be and it only comes out to 30$.
Hmm. Maybe I can get Jade her favorite drinks and snacks or something since she's going to be home for a while.

With that thought in mind I go down the soda isle and I'm met with a huge decision to make. Oh god there's so many choices. Vanilla Coke! It took me long enough to realize. I smile to myself as I grab a 12 pack of Coke and continue to the snack isle.

Shiiiit. Again so many choices. Hot fries. Salt and vinegar chips. Doritos jacked. Oh and can't forget the best one. Zebra cakes. I smile to myself again as I think about how happy the littlest thing will make her.

I head to check out and the cashier eyes me closely.

"Is everything alright?" I look at her and say.

She continues to eye me as she scans my items.

"You look familiar." She replied.

"We probably go to school together." I say taking out my wallet.

"Oh yeah! You're with that loser Jade." She laughs.

My face turns red. Excuse me? Only then I had realized I said it out loud.

"Um.. I.. I didn't mean..." she stutters.

"What exactly makes her a loser? Because she doesn't bother with bitches like you? Because she's different? Because she has her own thoughts and opinions and acts impulsively instead of playing follow the leader, because she is a leader. She's perfect. She's everything anyone would and could ask for." I try to keep my voice low as I hand her the money and take my change. I grab my stuff and get out of there before I explode.

I get in my car and head home. My heads cloudy and I didn't realize I was driving so fast because I'm at my house within minutes.

I unpack the car and head inside.

"Hey mom I'm back." I say to her.

"Oh hey finally." She smiles.

"Yeah, I got into it with the cashier. Sorry." I mumble.

"What happened?" My mom asks curiously while muting the TV.

"She was just talking crap about Jade and I wasn't having it." I say and she smiles.

"You're a good boy. You may have the tough guy look but you're a big sweetheart." She chuckles.

"Moooom stop." I reply.

She just chuckles and goes back to her show.

Meanwhile I'm in the kitchen I prepare Jade's food just as the instructions say. About 20 minutes later it's ready.

"Okay. Mom." I say.

"Hmm?" She says as I hand her a plate of it.

She smiles and takes a bite.

"You did a perfect job." She smiles wider. "She'll love it."

I put together a bed tray with the stroganoff on it and fill a tall glass with ice and Coke. I carry it upstairs and open Jade's door. She's fast asleep. So perfect. I set the tray at the foot of the bed as I walk over to her. I slowly stroke her face and put her hair behind her ear.

"Hey princess, wake up." I call out to her.

She stirs and groans softly. I lean down and kiss her cheek gently.

"Jaaaade." I whisper softly against her ear.

She opens her eyes and turns and looks at me and immediately smiles.

"You're back." She says in a very hoarse voice.

"Of course I am." I say as I place the tray over her as she sits up slightly.

"Wow.. Landon.." She looks at me.

"Try it." I urge her.

She takes quite a big bite out of it and smiles slightly.

"It's just like my mom used to make.." she whispers.

Oh my god. Now I understand..
