Chapter 32

I have never screamed in my life.

Not a blood curling one like I did just then. It was a heart-stopping, throat-scorching scream that I thought would never have come from me. It shattered my soul and pierced my ears.

It was inhuman.

It was me.

Everything that I had held inside of my for the past four months came pouring out of me. All the nightmares, all the careful words, all the tiptoeing around truths, all the times I had been damaged and left with nothing was in that scream. I had kept it locked deep inside a bottle and now that bottle had cracked, shattered, all the broken pieces of me set free and wanting to be put back to together.

My lungs tore and my lips split apart, making room to let the noise out.

Jeremy jumped off of me, scrambling to the other side of the bathroom as my dad and Hunter burst through the door, Susan, my mom, and my aunt and uncle behind them.

My dad looked from me to Jeremy to my pants halfway down my thighs and back to Jeremy again.

“You bastard,” He said before pouncing on his nephew just like Hunter had done. I heard fists connect with flesh and I flinched and there was Hunter in front of me, saying something, but I couldn’t hear because I realized I was still screaming so I stopped and then I started crying instead and I just held onto Hunter and I cried, pressing my face into Hunter’s chest.

I cried and I was finally free and I cried.

Dear Jeremy, . . .
