I'm woken in the middle of the night to a smoke alarm beeping. I can smell the smoke enter the bedroom.

I start coughing. "Noah." I yell.

Noah opens his eyes. "Fuck." He yells.

Noah and I run to the kids rooms.

I walk into Gisele's room. "Gisele!" I yell. I shake her.

She opens her hazel eyes. Mum?"

"We need to get out of the house. There's a fire." Gisele climbs out of bed.

Gisele and I run to the front door. It's been deadbolt and the keys gone.

I never locked it. The key should still be in the door.

I pick up a wicker chair. "Stand back, Gisele." I smash the chair against the window.

Gisele moves back a couple steps.

I hit it again and nothing happens. The window breaks on the third hit. There's a blanket on the lounge and I throw it over the window, to protect Gisele and I from the protruding glass of the window.

I help Gisele out the window. "Run, sweetheart."

Ashley, where's my princess.

I hear. "Mummy!"

Ashley? Is she in the basement? I thought Noah was going to get her.

I'm breathing in too much smoke and I start to cough.

"Mummy!"

I use my hands to cover my mouth and nose from the smoke.

It's getting too hot!

"Mummy! I'm in here."

Ashley, baby where are you?

I crawl along the ground.

"Mummy!"

I keep going to the basement.

Then I hear screaming and then. "Mummy!"

Where's my little girl.

Tears are falling down my face.

I cough again. I push open the door to the basement.

"Mummy! Down here."

I pull myself down the stairs. I cough.
