Sans tried staying awake, searching through books and books of old tales and research. He tried to find a way to defeat Chara, though he had never encountered this situation before. Through his best efforts to stay awake, he did not prevail.
Having slept for a while, he was shaken awake by a loud scream for his name. "Frisk!" He exclaimed, rushing off the couch and up the stairs and into the room. Panting, he was relieved to see her in her bed. "Kid you scared me," he cleared his nonexistent throat. "What's wrong?"
Frisk shook, pulling her knees close. "S-sans.." She whimpered, sans now sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Yeah? What is it?" He looked worriedly at her.
Frisk dye her head into her knees. "Sans.. Y-you.. You wouldn't.. Hurt me..." She sniffles. "R-right..?"
Sans was taken back by this. "no.." He said quietly, putting his hands in his knees. "no I would never..."
frisk flung herself forward and into the arms of sans. "I.. I don't wanna die, sans.."
The skeleton was in a certain state of shock. He put his arms around her and sighed. "Frisk.. As long as you're with me," Sans closed his eyes. "You will never.. EVER.. Be hurt. You got that?"
Frisk smiled as her tears stained sans' jacket and undershirt. "Mmhnn.." She mumbled, holding him tightly. Soon, frisk would fall asleep in his arms.
Sans grumbled, lifting Frisk off of him and tucking her back in. "Sleep tight, kiddo." Reaching over onto her forehead, he caresses her cheek and "kissed" her forehead. It was weird, more like his teeth touching her forehead in a strange matter. Oh well, that's what he gets for not having skin.
She mumbled indistinctly and rolled over as sans left the room. He sighed, leaning on the door as he closed it quietly. "I worry about you, kid.." He mumbled to himself.
After about another hour, sans was sitting in her room, watching over her sleep. Frisk opened her eyes and groaned, but waking up fully at the sight of sans. "Sans.. Why were you watching me?"
Sans chuckled, standing. "Well, no reason in particular. Just trying to make sure your okay and you don't do 'nything in your sleep."
Frisk gathered the blankets close to her. "Okay," she said, smiling. Sans walked over, sitting on the side of the bed. "What?" She asked.
Sans sighed. "Kid, as much as I want you to get all rested up, you and I need to get going. It won't be long until Chara gets strong enough to use the reset button and confirm it."
Frisk tilted her head slightly. "I thought my hand was needed to confirm it.." She said to herself.
Sans shrugged. "Never know what that devil child is gunna muster up next."
Frisk nodded in agreement. "Right." Looking around she cleared her throat. "So then let's get to it!" Jumping out of bed, she sprung to her feet.
Sans chuckled, standing as well. "I like your enthusiasm, kid!" He laughed, walking out the door and making sure she followed. "Now.. Be prepared for Chara and anything that gets past her."
Frisk nodded, her hair bouncing. "Alright." Her eyes shone with a certain thing that kept her going; it was familiar to Sans, as he once had it himself. It was DETERMINATION. The DETERMINATION to SAVE, the DETERMINATION to fix it.
Sans looked up, opening the door and letting the crisp, cold air nip at his bones. Thoughts ran through his mind and the only thing he wanted was vengeance. He did want Frisk safe, but he had let his brother get killed twice in a row. (Besides, he thought. I haven't had a good fight in a while.)
Frisk looked up at Sans and noticed he was glaring off in the distance. "Sans..? Are you okay?" Her hair ruffled in the wind, snow flakes falling from the ceiling.
Sans looked down at her. His face was strange, unlike she had seen him in a long time. The only other time she saw this face was right before their fight. "Don't worry, kiddo." A small smile came to his face. "Just don't worry 'bout it."
Frisk shuddered, nodding. "O-okay.." Taking steps out into the cold air, it was ominously quiet. There usually were loud bands playing a strange music, but all she heard now we're whirling of winds.
"Hey kid, you go on up ahead, I gotta do something real fast." Sans told Frisk, patting her back and walking off.
"Okay..." She said, cautiously walking along the path. Hearing something scatter across, Frisk jumped. "Wh-whose there..?" She asked. All that replied was an echo.
Returning to the path, she was attentive to every little movement of the entire forest. Making her way to the river, she noticed a little yellow flower petal. Frisk looked at it, curious. Then she saw a little green leaf further into the woods. She followed the trail of leaves and petals until she was completely lost. "Hello..?" She asked around. "A-anyone th-there..?"
She heard scuffling behind her and she gulped down a dry, parched throat. "P-please.. Don't hurt. m-me.."
"You know he's faking it.. Right?" She heard a sly, high-pitched male voice say. It came from below her. Frisk knew instantly who this was, due to the petals and leaves. "He doesn't care about you, and he sure as hell doesn't forgive you."
Frisk turned around. "What makes you say that, Flowey?"
The little flower stretched its stem up, matching face hight with Frisk. "Because, he doesn't. Are you just that stupid?"
Frisk scrunched her face and stepped back. "Yes he does, Flowey! You just want to manipulate me."
Flowey laughed. "Your smarter than she thinks," he had a smug look on his face as he shrunk down to his normal size. "But you seriously wanna know how I know that he doesn't care? That he's just using you? To get to Chara?"
Frisk didn't say anything. All she could do was hold her hands up near her heart, clutching each other. A chill was sent down her spine as winds whirled around, making her hair flow to the side.
Flowey's face grew into a face she had never seen before. His eyes were dark with white pupils in the middle, his mouth was filled with teeth as a black slithery tongue hung from it as he screeched out the words, "BCuASe YuO aRE A DirTY BRoTHeR KIlLEr!!!!"
Suddenly, before frisk could do anything, vines sprung from the ground and gripped her arms, legs, and neck. "HELP!" She screamed, trying to fight the vines as they slithered up her neck and began covering her entire head. "Sans!!" She called again, but it being muffled by the vines that tightened around her head. Soon, her eyes were covered by the spiky vines and she could see nothing.
She heard thwacking and one of the vines around her body felt lose. "ASRIEL!" She heard a very, all too familiar voice shout. "What the hell are you doing? You know I need the little shit alive!"
Frisk heard wimpers, "I-I-I'm s-sorry, ch-Chara.. I-I didn't-" but he was cut off by the sound of a Gaster blaster firing off. She felt most of the vines fall, but more vines replaced them.
"Let the kid go or I'll end you both, right here, right now." She heard a deep, gruff voice. It was sans! She struggled in the vines, but the thorns dug into her skin and drew blood.
Frisk fought for consciousness, fearing she die and sans would not be able to save her. "Sans.. Please.." She mumbled, blood soaking her clothes and dripping and staining the snow below them.
There was much shouting, slashing and thwacking. Frisk didn't know if sans was even still fighting. She knew his SOUL was weak, and it must have taken a lot of his magic that he had built up over the hours that he slept when he used the Gaster Blaster.
Soon, after hearing a lot of indistinct shouting, frisk lost consciousness. Before she did, however, she heard Sans shout something and the world went quiet. Had he lost the fight?
