After sleeping over Emily's house my weekend consisted of trying to finish "Les Mis," but we all know that's never going to happen.

My alarm clock goes off and it's 5:30 on Monday morning. No one should be alive at this hour, no one. I literally feel like the walking dead, but I gotta pull trough it because I have auditions today. I'm very nervous because this is my first year doing drama and I've never even been in a show before. They are doing "Phantom of the Opera." I know it's a very popular show so it can't be too bad. The audition song is called "Think of me." I love this song, but I struggle on some of the high notes.

I take my time getting ready and when I'm done is 6:23. I don't have time for breakfast so I grab a granola bar. When I get to my bus stop the bus is rounding the corner. My bus driver, Jane, is super nice. Since I am the first and last bus stop we've spent some time getting to know each other and she knows to wait for me cause I'm always running late.

The school day went by slowly and it dragged on for what seemed like forever. My audition is at seven thirty so I'm walking to McDonald's with Corn, who is also auditioning.

"I mean it! French fries are potatoes and ketchup is tomatoes so together they are basically a salad!" I say very matter of factly.

"Mel, you're an idiot." Emily says shaking her heard.

When we finish we head to the school. Brandon is also auditioning for the show. Now, since Brandon works at Taco Bell, he sells burritos and tacos from the inside of his jacket.

"Hey ladies." Brandon starts his schpeel, "I got four Doritos Locos Tacos for the price of two. You want in?"

"No thanks" we say in unison.

"Tough ladies to please. That's fine though. I'll give you five for the price of two."

"Not today Brandon." I say meekly.

"Six for two?" He says practically begging.

"Brandon get a life." Emily says annoyed.

Brandon looks as if he's going to try again when Emma struts by and gives him a tiny wave.

"Emma! Baby! Do you like Tacos?" Brandon says running after her and Emily and I laugh.

"Shoot I left my ap world history binder in my locker." Emily says.

"Come on let's hurry." I say racing her to her locker on the second floor.

I slow down, out of breath, in the science hallway. I am panting and I bend over with my hands on my knees. Emily used to be on the track team so she obviously beat me to her locker. We walk back to the music room taking a different staircase this time. I spot something out of the corner of my eye.

"You go ahead I'll meet you down there." I call to Emily because she is already halfway down the stairs. I go over to the fifth step and pick up a notebook. It's black with a skull on it and it looks familiar, but maybe I've seen it in Walmart before or something. I pick it up and open it. There are a whole bunch of random letters with little b's and hashtags next to some. In fact most of the whole book is full of them. I guess it's like a secret code or something cause it is definitely not school notes although sometimes I feel like science is another language. I decide to keep the book and figure it out.

My older brother, Michael, picked me up from school and my mom will bring me back later for my audition. My audition is at seven thirty which is super late, but also kind of convenient. When we park in the driveway I pull the notebook out.

"Michael do you no what language this is?" I ask. "I think it's Russian, but then again I wouldn't know case I don't speak Russian."

"Mel, you're an idiot. It's music." Michael replies rubbing his temples.

"Like sheet music?" I ask.

"I mean kind of, but whoever a book this is must play guitar because these are chords."
