Greg dropped me home I quickly got out of the car and took a short nap on the couch. When I woke up a blanket had been placed on me and my books were on the coffee table next to me. I was so emotionally exhausted that I must've forgotten them in his car.
I got up and changed for work. it's so degrading to wear my Red Mango hat and apron. It doesn't "help with sales," It embarrasses me and gets posted on Instagram for several peoples woman crush Wednesdays. I was tying my apron around my back when I got a text from Joannie.
From: Joannie:
OMG! Cali Beach Boy asked me out! We are coming to get some frozen yogurt around 5...BEHAVE!
I chuckled at the screen Joannie knows me so well. I put my hair in a high ponytail like a cheerleader to show pep, then when I was trying to apply mascara I sneezed and got black streaks all over my face. Just great. I cleaned myself off and checked my work schedule for tomorrow, Saturday the 14th.
I arrived at work around four o'clock ad my first customers were on a double date. Clara and Emilee went to get the frozen yogurt while their dates came up to me to order their smoothies.
"I'll take a sushi and orange peel smoothie with extra whipped cream." said Trent.
"Can I have some chocolate milk?" asked Dennis.
"You've got to be kidding me?" I said giggling. They both gave me a creepy, toothy grin.
"Here ya go!" Clara placed her yogurt on the scale and gave Dennis a kiss on the cheek.
"Uh Clara why did you just kiss my boyfriend?" Emilee asked. Her eyes narrowed on Clara.
"Because he likes me better than you." Clara teased.
Just as the two started getting physical one of the machines started leaking, no not leaking pouring. The girls were at each others throats while the floor was getting a nice serving of pink lemonade flavored frozen yogurt. I quickly grabbed the mop from the back room and Emilee smashed Clara into one of the tables.
Clara screamed as she came in contact with the floor after the table broke underneath her weight. The bell rang letting me know another customer had come into the store. Joannie and Dan. Joannie's eyes were wide and she mouthed something, but I didn't catch it because I slipped in all the yogurt.
Dan started to laugh and Joannie shot him a look, running to help me.
"What happened?" Joannie asked.
"I'm sorry I ruined your date, but I-" I started.
"I don't care about my date." Joannie said turning to Dan and flashing him a cute smile. "Are you alright?"
"I don't think this day could get any worse." I said, but I'd spoken too soon.
The door's bell chimed again and a familiar couple waltzed in. Mikie and Jaci. My eyes went wide and Joannie turned to see what I was looking at. Mikie looked surprised and Jaci had a pleased look on her face.
"Mel?" Mikie said.
"No sorry." I replied. Everyone looked at me with a confused look on their faces except Jaci who had an amused expression. "I mean she's here...in the back. I'll go get her." I said standing up and scrambling to the back room.
I grabbed my purse from the break room and ran to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and sighed. I wiped all the yogurt off my face and reapplied my makeup. I took my hair out if the ponytail and quickly braided it. I was all cleaned off and looked in the mirror again. Maybe they'd believe that I really wasn't the freak covered in yogurt.
I put on a smile and strutted out of the back with a bounce in my step. I pushed the door to see a lonely Clara and Emily at one table and Joannie and Dan at another. Joannie looked up and gave me a sad smile.
"They left." Joannie said standing up.
"So did Dennis and Trent." Clara said.
"Yeah, we're really sorry we messed this place up." Emily said embarrassed.
"It's fine don't worry about it." I said not believing my own lie.
The girls left and Joannie hugged me before her and Dan went to see the new Hunger Games movie, "Catching Fire." The day went by slow and before closing I was wiping the toppings section when another customer came in.
"Sorry we're closing." I said not looking up.
"I know." they said. Me head immediately shot up.
"Hey." I said avoiding eye contact.
"Hi." Mikie replied. "Look I wanted to say sorry for, uh, leaving earlier."
"It's fine." I said brushing him off looking back down resuming cleaning the toppings section.
"It's not and you know it." He said frustratedly. "I don't know how to make it up to you, but I will. I, uh, I'll see ya in school." With that he left.
