What? What does he mean he's not real?
"What do you mean your not real?" I ask Sean.
Sean starts to laugh and so does Mr. Drescher and all of the chorus girls. What is going on? Time slows down and my eyelids suddenly weigh a ton. I try to fight the drowsiness, but it's too late.
I jolt awake and I'm back in my bed. It was all a dream? That would explain why Sean was so weird. I'm just glad everything's back to normal. Actually it's not. I didn't dream that Greg moved away. I miss him terribly. I lay in bed and turn on NBC. Saturday Night Live is on and I pick out which sketches we would be in if we were some of the cast members. I only watch a little bit of the show before I drift off again.
School the next day goes slowly, but the kid who sits next to me in Ap World History keeps sniffing and making disgusting noises. I avoid eye contact with him and just look down and doodle on my study questions. This is so boring.
"Melanie!" Mr. Puggerio snaps. I drop my pencil and look up, my eyes wide with fear. "What year did Colombus sail the ocean blue?" He asks.
"Welp certainly before the 20th century that's for sure, but you know if he had found America and became a dictator like President Snow in the Hunger Games we all would've lived a life revolving around a metaphor about bread. In the book we're told Panem is what used to be North America and since Panem is Latin for bread basically we would live in the breadbasket state which is Pennsylvania." I say and then put my hand under my chin to look adorable.
"Go walk around the halls for a while." Is all he can say while everyone claps for me.
I get up and take a bow and then walk over to Mr. Puggerio's desk and take the hall pass he has written for me. He rolls his eyes and I smile. I love getting on his nerves. I collect my belongings and leave. I don't want to wait in the main part of the school because the principal is always standing there with an overly friendly smile.
I start to walk to my next period class which is select chorus and just as I do the bell rings letting all the animals put of their cages. I see Emily, who is also going to select chorus, and she tells me that my speech was amazing and her grandparents live in Pennsylvania. I roll my eyes because she's always either talking about Pennsylvania or cats.
As we walk I see Greg walking a few people ahead of us. I shake my head. it can't be Greg. My eyes are glued to the figure ahead of me with the green backpack that I know and love.
"Greg!" I yell and push past people to keep up with him. "Greg!" I say as I grab his shoulder and turn her around. It's a her. Its Hannah Mase. Just some girl with the exact same backpack as Greg. I mutter sorry and shuffle to class, keeping my head down to avoid the stares of people.
I quickly continue through the halls and end up bumping into Ryan Grand the tallest kid in the eleventh grade. I slowly look up towards him, my plams shaking.
"Gurl! You betta be on yo way to get some fried chicken if you be bunpin' into me!" he says in a high pitched ghetto voice. Did I mention he's convinced he's a black woman? He also loves learning languages, but the problem is he hates writing so it makes his life pretty difficult.
"Sorry." I say quietly. I'm usually not this shy.
"Where you gotta be?" he demands.
"Select chorus." I reply.
Ryan pushes me into the lockers knocking my books all over the floor. This seems to happen to me quite often. I grab all of my books and head to class. The bell rings and I sprint down the hallway. I enter the room a second late and my teacher glares at me. If looks could kill. She can give me something though. Detention.
