I looked up into his sparkling eyes. He's always been such a good friend to me. We have done every drama production we were eligible for in this school together and our voices sync perfectly. On an impulse I got on my tip toes and kissed him. He quickly pushed me off and ran his finger over his lips in shock. My eyes started to well with tears.

"Mel, I'm gay!" he said.

My heart stopped for a minute and I felt the vile rising. How could I have been so stupid? I mean his hair is always gelled to perfection and he can't stand sports.

"I'm s-sorry." I stuttered as I stumbled down the stairs and out of the auditorium. I was running as fast as my legs could carry me.

The bell rang and kids poured into the hallways. I didn't know where to go so I just stood there. Eventually a freshman ran passed me, knocking me over and not looking back. My books splattered everywhere. They may have mumbled sorry but I was too busy scrambling for my books. The late bell rang and no one bothered to help me. I gathered my books then heard giggling. I immediately realized who was coming my way. I quickly gathered my last bits of paper, but when I stood up, I was face to face with her.

"I-I just," I stammered, unable to speak.

"Freak." She said coldly and knocked my books back to the ground. She turned and looked towards the end of the hallway, "baby!" she squealed as her boyfriend rounded the corner, she ran and hugged him.

I couldn't let him see me so I left my books and ran into the restroom. I went into the farthest stall and curled up against the wall. I was sobbing a great deal when I heard the door open.

"Hello?" a male voice said.

"You can't be in here." I said, mortified.

"Actually, you can't, this is the boys room." He shot back in a half joking tone.

I stood up and brushed myself off. I went out to see who it was and to my relief it was Greg. He was holding my books that I had dropped earlier and put them on the counter. I fell into his arms crying and hugged him. He held me back at arm's length, one hand on my shoulder while the other wiped a tear away. Our eyes locked and I swear he was going to kiss me when suddenly we heard someone outside the door.

"Get in!" Greg said while slightly shoving me into the stall I had been held up in before. The stall door closed just before I heard his voice.

"Hello?" He said

"Hey man!" Greg replied. "What's up?"

"Nothing much. Just gonna take a wazz." He said unzipping his pants.

"Aight." Greg replied as he began to wash his hands.

"By the way, have you seen Mel?" The voice asked nervously.

I froze in my position, shocked. why would Mikie wanna see me? What if he sees my books on the counter? I took a chance and quietly opened the stall door. I saw Greg turn to me while Mikie was at the urinal and I shook my head vigorously.

"No, I haven't seen her." He answered back.

Mikie zipped up his pants and began to leave. "Alright man, thanks anyway."

Once Mikie left the bathroom I exited the stall. "I wonder what he wanted me for?" I asked Greg.
