I was sitting in math class, just staring out the window. Red maple trees are my favorite and it makes me really happy to see a line of them in front of the school, which is the view I have since they're just outside the window next to my seat. The way they lightly sway in the wind. It's so peaceful and beautiful, I could just sit here forever.
"Melanie." Mrs. Motan says softly, giving me a concerned look.
"Sorry," I whisper back, feeling my cheeks get red. I looked back at my paper and solved the problem. I was about to raise my hand to answer when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.
From: Jake:
Meet me in the auditorium ASAP!!
I quickly got out my organizer and in the back section set aside for passes I wrote one to the bathroom. I went up to Mrs. Motan's desk while everyone worked quietly and diligently. She reluctantly complied and motioned her head towards my belongings. Class was almost over and she knew I wasn't really going to the restroom. I thanked her, grabbed my things and left.
I made it to the auditorium and decided to go in up the steps through the back. When I reached the top and peered over the ledge I saw Jake standing on the stage.
"Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes." I sang as I started to walk down the stairs.
He turned to see me and smiled. "Five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear."
I ran up the steps and walked through the ropes to join him on the stage. I jumped into his arms and we spun around as if it was a movie. He placed me down and we took in our surroundings. We were so young when we started on this stage and we've grown so much.
"I need to tell you something." He said.
"Anything." I replied smiling.
"We've been friends ever since kindergarten," he chuckled, "you with your pigtails."
"And you with your tie." I laughed.
"My mom didn't want me to be underdressed." He rolled his eyes at me for bringing it up. "Well what I'm gonna say could change our relationship, but please don't think of me any different."
"Never." I said nervously.
