I pace back and forth outside of the auditorium. Last time I was in here things didn't go very well so I'm just hoping that nothing bad happens. I feel like I'm about to throw up when Greg texts me.

From: Greg:

Break a leg! Come over after the audition.

Greg is so supportive of me. I wish he was more social so I could cheer him on like he does for me, but he's too shy. It really is a shame though cause the kid has talent. My thought bubble is popped as the door opens.

"Melody?" The Director says.

"It's Melanie." I correct him with a smile and he returns it.

"Sorry darling. I'm Mr. Drescher." He says guiding me into the auditorium.

"Nice to meet you." I say.

He motions his hand toward the stairs to the side of the stage and I nod heading up them. I push past the ropes and memories of Jake flood through my head. I try to push them down and I nearly jump when Mr. Drescher starts to speak again.

"State your name, grade and part you're auditioning for." He calls.

"My name is Melanie Dales, I am in tenth grade and I am auditioning for Christine Daea." I say

He gestures to the stage manager Megan Laurence. She looks up from her Highlights magazine and hits play on track 3, "Think of me."

I inhale and all thoughts leave my mind. I am Christine. I am the meek chorus dancer who becomes the beautiful soprano. I feel the crowd encouraging me and the high notes come out as if they were meant to be. I finish and my breathing increases. it takes a lot to get all of that out.

I remember that this is my audition as I look out to Megan and Mr. Drescher. He jots things down on his clip board before dismissing me. I thank him as scurry out.

My mom is waiting in the parking lot and she picks up McDonald's for Greg and I. I get us two happy meals and when we arrive at his house I knock on Greg's door and his mom opens.

"Hello sweetie!" She says.

"Hi Mrs. Ports." I reply stepping inside.

"Greg is upstairs. I baked cookies if your hungry for a snack." She chimes.

I hold up the take out bag and shake it a bit. She chuckles and goes back to the kitchen, where she belongs. I tip toe up the stairs and sneak up to Greg's door. I jump in screaming attempting to scare him, but he's not their. Just then I feel a hand on my waist and Greg grabs me and licks my cheek.

"You're disgusting!" I say shoving him off.

"Errybody loves Greg!" he says and we go to lay on his bed.

He has stickers and posters on his ceiling. There are some unknown bands, some cat stickers and way to many magazine cut outs of Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.

"I'm just gonna come out and say it." Greg says. I sit up and look at him and he looks like he's conflicted.

"It's alright Greg you can tell me anything, but I'm not gonna misinterpret this and kiss you because last time that backfired." I say and he chuckles, but not his usual goofy chuckle that fills the room.

"Mel I, Mel I got into a film camp." he starts and continues before I can congratulate him, "it's a two week program in North Carolina, but because it's my senior year and I've completed all of my required classes I'm going to be starting their college courses early. So I'm moving there and living with my uncle."

This all came out so fast and I'm dumbfound. As if he's reading my mind he says, "I leave Thursday." Oh my god. today is Monday. Greg is leaving me so soon. I think I'm gonna be sick. I jump up off the bed and run down the stairs and out of the house. I just keep running.
