Madelyn’s POV
Five unread messages from Jenna, this is getting to the stage of bullying. Harry went home late last night. We just sat and reminisced about our past. He has never had a girlfriend! I can’t wrap my head around that! My phone rang, please don’t be Jenna, please don’t be Jenna! “Phew!” It’s just Mum.
“Hello darling?” Mum sang through the phone, someone’s happy.
“Hey Mum. How is everything?” my eyes are sensitive to the sun beaming through the window.
“Good honey, Your Dad is having pancakes!” She sounded so overexcited for the small occasion.
“Whoa really?” I said trying to sound enthusiastic. She was so excited as Dad usually hates pancakes. He said there ‘filthy things’ after he ordered them at a small town restaurant and found a long strand of hair in between his stack. I am almost 100% sure that this is a bet from Mum.
“So how are you sweetheart?” Mum’s voice was sincere, she sounded sad that she left me alone and to be honest I would love for her to be here right now.
“I’m fine,” I lied. “We have new neighbours, the Moores.”
“Ooh any cute guys?” She asked, I felt my stomach flip.
“Uh Well, there could be,” I said cheekily.
“Madelyn Elizabeth Kingsley... You better be careful?” She said. God she said my full name, Yep she’s serious.
“I know Mum, you have nothing to worry about,” I reassure her.
“Okay well I know you have to get ready for school so I’ll talk to you later,” She said quickly hanging up. I jumped in the shower and washed down my body. I slipped on some shorts and a sleeveless white band shirt. I pulled on some boots and threw my hair up into a bun. There was no need to worry about my appearance now that I’m completely avoiding that ‘popular group’.
“See you there,” Harry said jumping in his car. I know we really should be sharing a car, to reduce the petrol use and all that but I have to go and see my grandparents this afternoon.
“Yep,” I said jumping in my car. My mood lifted when my favourite song came on and that seemed to set me up for the rest of the day.
The first half of the day had passed quickly and lunch had begun. I sat at an empty table with Harry but our conversation was interrupted by Jenna.
“What did I tell you?” Jenna said eyeing me.
“Why should I have to do what you tell me?” I ask angrily.
“Because without me, your nothing Madelyn,” Why would she call me that, she’s never called me that before.
“Jenna what are you doing?” I ask pathetically after I noticed the crowd that had gathered. I stayed seated at the table and Harry watched on from opposite me. His face expressing that he is worried for me.
“I told you, to stay away from him!” She screeched answering her previous question.
“I know that,” I said sternly.
“Well why are you with him now?” She was yelling now and I was only about a meter from her.
“Because I can be and you have no right to tell me who I should and shouldn’t talk to!” I was beginning to lose my patience but yelling back at her felt, well... nice.
“Oh really?” I was surprised by her answer. She flashed Harry a flirty smile. It all made sense now; she wanted me out of the way so she could have Harry.
