Maddy’s POV
“Who was that guy?” Daisy asked once we had reached our room. Of course I couldn’t tell her, I was sworn to secrecy.
“She hasn’t told me anything,” Freyer jumped from her bed to mine. “Has she said anything to you, Mads?”
“No, why would she tell me? I’m new, she’s closer with you guys,” I replied. My tone was a little worried and I knew they picked up on it.
“She told you didn’t she?” Daisy smiled. There is no way I can tell these girls.
“No,” I bit back, hoping the subject would lay to rest.
“She has told you!” Freyer cheered. Both girls leaned right up to my face. “Tell us? Who is he?”
“I can’t, I’m sworn to secrecy!” I chuckled. This was going to be great to watch them squirm.
“But it’s just us, we won’t say anything!” Daisy pleaded, her eyelids began to flutter.
“Guys! No, I’m not saying a word,” they sat back against the damp wall.
“You don’t think he’s her lost twin brother do you?” Daisy asked.
“No way! They look nothing alike?” Freyer and Daisy looked to me for assurance but they weren’t getting any.
“Come on Mads,” Daisy begged again.
“You aren’t being very fair to me are you? What happens if I tell you? Loppy will be hurt and I’ll be a horrible friend!” their faces fell once they knew I was right.
“You’re right. Freyer we’ll just have to ask her when she gets back,” and as if exactly on queue Loppy came skipping in the door, a ginormous smile on her face. I watched Freyer and Daisy’s faces as they became more and more anxious to know. Loppy took a seat on her bed before lying back and gazing up towards the ceiling, that pathetic lovey-dovey smile still plastered across her face.
“Please tell us who he is!” Daisy cried out. I rolled my eyes with a smile of amusement.
“Yeah, come on Loppy! Mads won’t spill a word and you know we won’t either!” Freyer swore. Loppy’s gaze fixed on me and I shook my head signalling that I hadn’t told them anything.
“Okay the truth is, I don’t like Ryan,” Loppy’s smile increased and Freyer and Daisy’s seemed to be replaced with confusion. “I don’t like Ryan because I love somebody else,” Freyer smiled.
“You like that guy!” Freyer was lost of his name.
“Mason?” I helped.
“Yes! Mason! You Love Mason” Freyer yelled.
“Shh! No one is to know!” Loppy squealed.
“So what’s the deal with you two?” Daisy asked suspicious.
“Well we have been together for a while. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you but it couldn’t risk us getting caught. We can’t even be paired together, Mrs Loyal will sniff out our situation within seconds,” Daisy and Freyer smiled as if they were the Cheshire cat.
“So who knows about it?” Daisy sat up straighter as the gossip kept coming.
“You guys, and a few of Mason’s friends. Eric, Jarod and Nicolas.” This was news to me, Eric had almost been one step ahead of me all this time.
“Loppy, I cannot believe you! You made us believe you had this crush on Ryan!” laughed Freyer.
“It was the perfect decoy.”
After a few more minutes of gossiping about Loppy’s love life we each gave into sleep. But before my eyelids closed I remembered what I’d forgotten, Harry.
“What are you doing?” Freyer asked groggily.
“I need to call Harry,” I whispered.
“Be quiet then, the girls are asleep,” she mumbled.
“Don’t worry about me,” I giggled.
“Be careful Mads, don’t get caught,” with those words I took hold of my phone and tiptoed to the girls bathrooms. Just as I thought, they were deserted. I dialled the number I knew so well and relaxed when I heard his voice.
“Maddy?”
“Hey, how are you?”
“I’m better now? How’s school?”
“It’s okay. How’s the Jenna situation?”
“It could be better, she is still up to her same old games,” his voice was tired.
“What about Tim and Ashley?” I asked.
“They are a couple you’d have to see to believe,” he chuckled through the phone. How I missed his voice.
“I miss you.”
“Not as much as I miss you,” he hummed.
“The days are going by faster now that I have routine, not long to go,” I said, hope washing each and every word.
“My days are getting longer,” he sighed.
“I have to go, I just needed to her your voice. Say hello to everyone for me and tell my parents I’ll ring them tomorrow night. I love you Harry,” I said.
“I love you more. Goodnight,” he said. How did he know it was night time?
“Goodnight.”
I made it back to my room without getting caught. Freyer was asleep now and Daisy was awake, reading obviously. I creep over to where her sheet is illuminated by a flash light. “What are ya reading?” she jumps back as a pull the sheet back over her head.
“Maddy! You gave me a fright,” she gasped.
“Sorry. Ooh Harry Potter, I should have known,” I laughed.
“Yeah,” she giggled.
“Okay well, night,” I chuckled before leaving her to her book.
I pulled the sheets high to my neck; the weather was beginning to get colder every day. I let my mind wander like I did most nights. I miss my family back home but I know I have a family here too. I would do anything to get back home and be with my parents and most of all be with Harry. He doesn’t deserve someone who won’t be there for him. I’m not going to see him until Christmas and that is months away. Why can’t I just wake up and realise this has all been a dream, that way I could avoid saying goodbye to my new found friends although I could have the best wish of all. I would be with the people I love. I’d be with my family.
