Madelyn’s POV
What a day. Who would have known that glow worm cave would have been there, and only about an hour from Southmont! Dazing into the setting sun I see Harry’s eyes almost undressing me. “You should keep your eyes on the road,” I laugh.
“Sorry,” he said a little embarrassed.
“So I just wanted to say thank you for today, I had a great time,” I said trying to get a conversation flowing and I didn’t have to try too hard.
“It’s no problem, we should really thank Tim though, he’s the one that gave me the idea,” he said handing all the credit over. “I had a great time too, that glow worm cave was amazing,” he said emphasising the word ‘amazing’.
“Yeah, I know!” I said resting my hand on the console. His hand almost followed mine and found itself resting atop mine. I saw Harry’s shocked expression but gave him a reassuring smile and he happily left it there.
“Well thank you again,” I say as he stands on my porch steps next to me.
“My pleasure,” he said, that British accent still gets me every time.
I nod and feel the tension get a little sharper, “Can I kiss you?” He asked and I had to try my hardest to hold in my laugh.
“Yes,” I said pulling him close. He kissed me again and this time I felt the despair, I know he’d only be next door when he left but it seemed farther away that a few meters.
“Goodnight beautiful,” he whispered in my ear as I opened the door. I thought people only ever said that in the movies and when I think about it, ever since I met Harry I’ve kind of thought I’d been in a movie, almost like it was too good to be true.
“Goodnight,” I said stepping inside, I didn’t close the door until I saw him enter the door to his own house and as I turned around I had the fright of my life!
“Mum! Dad!” I screamed. They weren’t supposed to be back for a few more days.
“Hey honey,” they were casually sitting on the couch and I freaked out when I thought about whether they saw the kiss! It was dark out and I figured I knew the questions that would follow my late appearance. I hugged them both.
“You’re back early?” I wondered.
“Yep, the conference didn’t go for as long as we expected, we thought you’d be lonely so we came home. I guess we were wrong,” Mum said a smile creeping onto her face. I knew they wouldn’t be mad that I was out but I knew they’d be curious as hell.
“Yeah, uh no I had friends to hang out with,” I said, god I’m such a terrible liar.
“Sure, friends,” Mum was laughing now and Dad was not really catching on, “so who was that?” she asked and I racked my brain for an appropriate answer.
“That was Harry,” I said trying to sound innocent.
“Harry?” My Dad’s expression changed immediately; did he even see me out there?
“Yeah, he is new.”
“I thought you would have hung out with Chelsea or Jenna?” It kind of annoyed me that my Dad didn’t know how I felt towards certain people but how was he supposed to know? It’s not like I broadcast it.
“I have figured I’m nothing like them,” I replied and watched my Mother’s expression light up. She’s never liked Jenna or Chelsea, she’s always thought that they were a little... skanky and poor Dad had no clue at all.
