Madelyn’s POV
“Hello girls,” Mrs Jiminy sat at the front of a small classroom and a sheet of paper was placed on each individual desk.
“Hi,” I replied and the girls gave me a quick warning glance, I got the idea that I wasn’t supposed to reply to her.
“Madelyn? What are you doing here?”
“Well it’s a long story,” I replied.
“What are you girls here for? You are to write lines,” Oh bring on the writer’s cramp.
“Uh well, We just had our music up too loud,” Freyer said leaving out the real reason we were in trouble, Daisy laughed and It started a chain reaction.
“Okay well sit at a separate desk each and write out the line, ‘I will not exceed the volume limit when playing music’,” We all sat down at least one desk in between each of us. Why is it that it’s impossible not to laugh when you are told it is prohibited?
I looked to my left and saw Daisy and Loppy laughing silently and I turned to my right to see Freyer holding in her laughter.
“Girls, that’s quite enough!” Mrs Jiminy was angry which made my want to laugh even harder.
“Sorry Miss,” Daisy said trying so hard to hold in a laugh but she wasn’t successful, loud laughter belted out and it was then impossible to hold it in myself.
“You will be,” She replied sternly. After about half an hour of giggling we seemed to settle down slightly and I managed to finish reading black beauty, a book Harry gave me to read. I glanced at the clock on the wall, 8:10pm. Ugh. I contemplate raising my hand and decide to bite the bullet.
“Yes Madelyn?” Mrs Jiminy shuffles the few pages on her desk.
“Uh, how long do we have to be in here?”
“As long as it takes you to write out one hundred lines,” she replies. I wish she had told me that earlier, no doubt I’ve written over two hundred! I glance over to the girls who seem to have the same idea as me. All four of us begin frantically counting the lines we have written on the paper in front of us.
“I’ve written more than one hundred, Miss!” Daisy yelled, jumping from her chair.
“Me too!” Freyer and Loppy stood up, joining Daisy. Two hundred and thirty seven. Really?
“Madelyn? Are you finished as well?” I nodded and stood with the girls. As Miss Jiminy was about to dismiss us a familiar boy walked through the door. Eric.
A few awkward glances were exchanged before he opened his mouth, “Um, hello. I’m Eric, I have detention for eight o’clock,” he stuttered.
“Well you’re late? I thought Mrs Loyal had a separate detention planned for the boys?” Eric shook his head.
“She told me to come here. Unless I took a wrong turn?” Mrs Jiminy nodded.
“Eric, I think you have taken a wrong turn. Girls could you show Eric to the second detention room on your way out,” just what I wanted.
“Sure,” Freyer answered when I stayed silent.
“So I didn’t take you to be a bad girl,” Eric ridiculed. He grew closer to me with every step we took.
I’m not,” I bit back.
“Doesn’t look like it,” he smirked.
“Well you don’t know the real story,” I teased.
“Tell me,” he pleaded. There was no way I was going to tell him.
“She was caught talking to her boyfriend on her mobile,” Daisy covered.
“Yeah, and there are no mobiles permitted here,” Freyer added.
“Here’s detention, bye,” Loppy squealed, pulling my arm away.
“Bye!” I called. What had gotten into these girls?
“Maddy! What’s gotten into you?” Daisy asked, a slither of disappointment painted her confused tone.
“What do you mean?” I stuttered, slightly afraid.
“You are falling for that guy Maddy!” Loppy squealed.
“I am not!” I hissed, I was annoyed they would even think that!
“We just call it as we see it,” Daisy mumbled.
“You looked into his eyes didn’t you,” Freyer stated.
“Well of course, I have to. He’s my partner, I can’t escape being with him and not looking into his eyes,” I argued. “I can’t believe you would think that! What kind of person do you think I am, I have harry!” I yelled. A few people had gathered in the hallway and before making the scene even worse I took off, “I thought you guys were on my side,” I muttered before running up the hallway.
When I reached our room I flung open the door and grabbed a towel, a bathing suit and a set of fresh clothes. As I flung open the door to escape the girls were standing there before me. “Come on Maddy, please...” Freyer reached an arm out to stop me but I pushed past them. I raced down the set of stairs and after countless steps I reached the abandoned washrooms. Five spa’s were unoccupied as I filled the furthest tub. I added bubbles and set my clean clothes wrapped in my towel on the chair beside me. I drew the curtain and changed from my underwear to my bathers. I jumped in the spa; the hot water momentarily washed my thoughts away. I love Harry to bits! How could they think I would sacrifice what they have for someone else, especially Eric!
After what seemed like hours footsteps rang through the room, the sound bouncing off the tiles. Please don’t be Mrs Loyal, please don’t be Mrs Loyal. “Maddy?” Freyer?
“No,” I stuttered.
“Maddy, it’s me. I need to talk to you,” she said. I could hear the sympathy in her voice. When I didn’t answer she continued, “About before, I’m sure the girls were protecting you more than anything,” I could see her silhouette through the curtain. “I know you would never think about cheating on Harry. He seems like a great guy and you speak so highly of him. You two seem like the perfect match,” this made me smile, “I’m just really sorry Mads.”
“I love him,” I stated. I didn’t know how emotional I felt until my voice came out raspy and cracking.
“I know you do and I know he loves you too. Eric is definitely not your type. He’s a sleaze and I don’t blame you for complaining. I honestly don’t know how you’ve lasted this long,” with that I drew back the curtain revealing a worried Freyer sitting on an empty abandoned school chair.
“How did you know I was here?”
“We figured you were here when you scampered from the room with your bikini,” figures. “We wanted to give you a bit of time before coming down to see if you were okay.”
“We?”
“We’re here too,” I watched Daisy and Loppy emerge from behind the door.
“We’re sorry,” Loppy apologised.
“We know you would never hurt Harry. It’s more Eric that we’re worried about,” I rose form the tub and wrapped my towel around me.
“Why would you be worried about me?” my head whipped up and I slipped on spilled bubbles.
“ERIC!” I screamed. I sat on the floor. I pulled at my towel to cover every inch of my body that I could.
“Sorry!” he pulled his eyes from me and covered them with his hands. “I didn’t realise this was taken, I’d heard it was abandoned.” I looked up to see four other guys round the corner. Loppy’s boyfriend, Mason too. Oh dear.
“Penelope,” Mason mumbled. His eyes were wide.
“Mason, good to see you again,” Loppy murmured. “Guys, I might stay here for a bit, I’ll catch up with you later.” I walked towards the door hoping I could make it to our room before anyone catches us. Thankfully I made it.
