~~~~~(Back to Annie's pov)
When I wake up, I scream. I'm the last one awake. I rub my eyes. I hadn't noticed the tears strolling down them. I breathe deeply. My breaths are shaky. As if I'm scarred. Well, I am scarred.
My eyes feel wide. Tears are constantly running down my dirty cheeks. And too top it all off, my friends look worse. Well, probably.
I could see Calypso burying her face in Leo's burnt, and ripped up shirt. Her breathing was shaky and sharp. Unlike mine, hers were small, quick breaths. She looks like she had suffered a whole load of heartbreaks in five minutes. And given what's going on, I bet that's the case. Tears were streaming down her cheeks constantly, as if the had no control. (They're divergent.) Her frown was bigger than I'd ever seen.
Leo was hugging her and patting her back. He was muttering words of reassurances, but his face said otherwise. Leo looked shaken. He was ultimately shaking. Tears were rolling down his face and on to calypso. His eyes were wide and empty. It looked as if he had seen into the destruction of humanity. His breaths were shaky yet steady. He breathed at a oddly slow pace. I don't remember ever seeing such an empty look on him. Ever.
Grover was full on crying. He wailed and sniffled. Tears fell on his jeans. He rubbed his eyes so much that they were pink and puffy. If it could his skin was paler than normal. Actually, they all looked like ghosts. Grover was gasping for air. His eyes were full of sadness and lost hope. Sorta like Pandora's box.
I did the first thing that came to mind. I ran over to Grover and hugged him. I hugged him so hard.
"Don't worry." I said to him, while choking through tears. "It's all in the past."
Grovers breath got a bit steadier and his wailing lessened. "Yeah." Grover choked out. "All in the past."
I let go of Grover. "I'm going to get some water." I say, my throat dry.
Grover nods thoughtfully. "Get me some too?" He asks hopefully.
I nod and stumble the few steps it takes to get to my bag. I rummage through it. I pick out a couple water but notice something at the very bottom. A white piece of paper. It said: To Annie. From, Family.
The writing was super familiar, but it wasn't Malcom's or any other children of Athena. It was like a faint memory. From many years back. I put the waters down and picked up the note carefully, examining it all angles.
"Annabeth?" Grover asked me, with slight concern in his voice."Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I'm fine." I reply without looking back at him.
I opened the letter. It smelled of death. Nico? No. He wouldn't consider us his 'family' ever.
I read it aloud.Dear Annie,
How ya doing? I'm great. Thanks for asking. Look. I'm really sorry about what I did. I managed to save only Percy from this incident. I wish I could've saved you as well. I honestly do. But Kronos wouldn't allow it. I should probably explain. Kronos wanted revenge. Yeah. So he sent Percy to Ogigiya, after a lot of persuasion from me, to save him. So yeah. Here's the thing. Percy should be back at camp. Hecate should be okay about now. Also, the mist might've broke a bit. Oops. Anyway, your quest is over. Thanks for taking care of my camp!
~Luke.
Ps. Tell the Stoll brothers to look under their bed. An old prank from their brother.I start to happily cry. I turn around smiling to see my three teammates looking at me funny.
"It's okay! It's over! We can go home!" I say, showing them the note.
After that they all crack a smile. I choke on all the sobs and sorrow in my throughly and dance a happy little jig.
"We're going home!" Leo yells.
Calypso laughs. "Finally."
Grover bleats. "I did it! We did it!"Suddenly Grover stops celebrating. "I think I'll retire from quests now."
I laugh. "Me too."
I take a 100 dollar bill out of my pocket. "Anyone have money left over?" I ask.
Everyone pulls out a 100 dollar bill.
"Who wants lunch?" I ask impatiently.
"I'm starved." Leo reply hopping to his feet. "What bout you two?"
"I could eat." Grover says happily.
"Yes please!" Calypso sighs a huge sigh of relief.
"Then why wait?! Grab your stuff!" I say.
We all grab our stuff and run to the nearest restaurant, and it was the best McDonalds
I had ever had.
