You sighed as you flopped down face-first on your bed, sighing in frustration as you did so.
"What's wrong?" Juuzou asked you as he sat down beside you.
"Just frustrated," you said as you turned your head to the side, so your words wouldn't be muffled by the bed. "Work is stressing me out, and the Ghouls are only getting hungrier."
"We're going to stop them, y/n. And you don't need to worry about the Ghouls getting hungrier because I'm never going to let them hurt you. Or even get within five feet of you. I'm not going to let anyone or anything hurt you."
You shook your head as you sat up. "You can't protect me from everything, Juuzou. You can only do so much, and I'm not going to depend on you for protection. That isn't fair to either of us."
"Losing you isn't fair to me." He slowly raised his hand up to cup your cheek. You looked at the red stitches going up his arms as he began to rub his thumb over your cheek. "I'll do whatever I have to in order to protect you, y/n. You know that. Ghouls will know better than to mess with you when I'm around."
"What about when you're not around?"
He focused his red eyes on your y/e/c ones. "I'll always be around." He slowly close the distance between the two of you, pressing his lips to yours. You kissed him back, your lips moving in sync with his as he put one of his arms around your waist. "As long as my heart beats, it'll be right beside yours."
You laid back on the bed, pulling on his arm to bring him down with you. He laid down beside you, breaking the kiss so that he could put his arm around you and have you rest your head on his chest.
"Now, get some rest." He gave you a smile, the two stitches on his mouth jerking upwards. "I'll protect you from the ghouls."
As you closed your eyes, you cuddled more into Juuzou's side. You slowly fell asleep, feeling safer and more relaxed than you had in a long time.
