it hurt.

the fact that jeongguk couldn't hug taehyung at the airport; it hurt.

before leaving the house, jeongguk gave taehyung the tightest hug he could give. they share a kiss together, the last kiss them both would never forget.

jeongguk's heart was pounding. it hurt.

they leave the house and into the car. then they were off to the airport. taehyung's heart couldn't stop beating, nor his tears couldn't stop streaming.

"i'll wait for you, i will." jeongguk says, stopping himself from sobbing as he drove his boyfriend to he destination.

"be patient with me, okay? i'll come back as soon as i can."

"you promise you won't leave me?"

"i promise. if i break it, i might as well be sentenced to death." taehyung mumbles, tears continue to fall.

"don't say that."

"i said it." jeongguk laughs at taehyung's statement. no matter how sad the situation, would taehyung ever stop making jeongguk chuckle?

the two glance at each other for a split second and laugh, "this is like a nightmare."

taehyung sniffles, "i know, i can't believe i'm leaving. i can't believe i managed to learn portions of english." he chuckles.

they near the airport, "don't forget to video call me. in general, don't forget to call me."

"i know, jeongguk. we'll be busy, that's for sure."

"we'll make time, right?"

taehyung recalls the words he said on january 1st and smiles, "of course." he adjusts his hat and looks out the window. the song that plays in the background will surely be memorable for the two of them. it will remind them of a shitty day where words of pain were exchanged.

they park at the airport and jeongguk is wearing a beanie, sunglasses, and a light blue surgical mask. he made sure to wear this color since he's never worn it before. therefore, it isn't familiar to fans who bumped into him in the building.

jeongguk made sure to wear clothes he's never worn before so he looked like a stranger to whoever saw him as familiar. for the sake of taehyung's safety, he made sure to put effort into every detail. even though it won't work as planned, he put an effort to one of his top priorities.

they walk into the building and jeongguk tries his best to avoid a sob. it was such an obstacle to stop himself from crying when he was watching his boyfriend leave. he couldn't bare the thought of being distanced from him for ten months. however, he believed they could make it work.

the two arrive at taehyung's departure area and they both wished they could pull the other into a tight hug. instead of this, they fist bump to act as though they were just best friends. at least this is how jeongguk's fans saw them as, best friends.

at this moment, various memories together begin to flash through their heads as jeongguk turns back to leave and say goodbye. their hearts sink and wither from the numbness as they realize that they really are leaving each other. it was reality.

life isn't scripted, they both realize.
